Well, after doing a bit of digging, it seems the now impossible to find King's Gunworks ambi was considered the best of the bunch. A lot of blokes seem to have a reluctance to use ambi safeties, and if it increases the odds of something going wrong, I agree. Having said that, are there any current ambis that are both reliable, low-profile, and as easy to install as the King's? Discuss. *popcorn*

Probably the best is the Kimber.
Its as close a copy of the King's as they dared come. Like the King's, it uses a grooved hammer pin to retain it, which is much better than the Swenson type with the paddle that fits under the grip like most others do. http://www.kimberamerica.com/shop/product.php?xProd=278&xSec=21 |

The only issue with Kimber anything: is this barstock or MIM? [Barstocksnobbery] MIM is no-go for me.[/Barstocksnobbery] D-R Snobbery? That has nothing to do with it. Take a look at this thread on another board: http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/forums/showthreadphp?t=25295 You will have to register in order to see the microscope photos of MIM defects in gun parts. |

I have used the kimber and I like it. One of the pins is longer and has a slot on it for the RHS to slip onto. There isn't a need for the special relieved stock grip for the "finger" to ride behind. They are fairly low profile as well. Why would you install MIM parts? I always thought those were the parts to get rid of on Kimber, and on a side note, my former CDP had to have the ambi replaced twice, as it kept loosening up and then breaking the left side off. |
