Well, after doing a bit of digging, it seems the now impossible to find King's Gunworks ambi was considered the best of the bunch.  A lot of blokes seem to have a reluctance to use ambi safeties, and if it increases the odds of something going wrong, I agree.  Having said that, are there any current ambis that are both reliable, low-profile, and as easy to install as the King's?  Discuss. *popcorn*

I'd try Wilson's new bullet proof ambi safety..... I'm running a Ed Brown on one of mine. It works fine but feels loose on right side because of the key type lock. Wilson's new safety should take care of that issue.

I have Ed Brown on a Kimber and my Springer Mil Spec...no problems with them at all...proper fitment is important...I didn't install mine...good luck with your choice...

Wilson makes one from barstock.

Don't know if any others do. I know a few make single sided barstcok ones.

Most others are cast or min.

Ed Brown or Wilson make great products.

Probably the best is the Kimber.
Its as close a copy of the King's as they dared come.
Like the King's, it uses a grooved hammer pin to retain it, which is much better than the Swenson type with the paddle that fits under the grip like most others do.

The only issue with Kimber anything: is this barstock or MIM? [Barstocksnobbery] MIM is no-go for me.[/Barstocksnobbery]

Nice post I wish I had know that those safeties were built I would have used them on my current build.

Snobbery? That has nothing to do with it. Take a look at this thread on another board:

You will have to register in order to see the microscope photos of MIM defects in gun parts.

I have used the kimber and I like it.  One of the pins is longer and has a slot on it for the RHS to slip onto.  There isn't a need for the special relieved stock grip for the "finger" to ride behind.  They are fairly low profile as well.

Why would you install MIM parts?  I always thought those were the parts to get rid of on Kimber, and on a side note, my former CDP had to have the ambi replaced twice, as it kept loosening up and then breaking the left side off.

Well, the Wilson Bulletproof looks like the winner.  Talk about well built...
