Hi guys,
A local shop has a US Property marked 1911 on consignment for $525. I believe it was a Colt, but I'm not 100% on that. The gun's not in great shape and the previous owner had dovetails cut and adjustable sights installed on it. I'm wondering if this would be a good buy for a future build. If I do end up buying it for a custom build, I'd probably just use the original frame and slide (and maybe barrel if it was in decent shape). Is there anything I should be aware of as far as these parts being worn out or near the end of their useful life? Thanks for any help. |

I would do a field strip (or have the shop do it in front of you) & make sure there's no peening of the frame from the slide due to a weak recoil spring. Check the slide around the holes where the slide release goes thru the slide, make sure there's no cracks forming.
I would doubly ensure there's been no "home gunsmithing" done to the trigger/sear. Also make sure it's not an Essex frame with a Colt slide too!
