I have to admit I know very little about these guns.
My buddy's grandfather left him this gun.

We cleaned it up the other day, down to the frame.
The mag release works but unlike my typical semi autos the mag doesn't "spring" out of the magwell like normal.
This should happen right? The mag should "spring" out of the bottom of the gun...?

I had to manually grab the front of the mag and pull it out. This happens when loaded or unloaded.

Any suggestions, any parts I should check/replace?
From what I can tell this is the original mag, but wtf do I know...

Sometimes older mags can spread apart at the top where the feedlips are,and cause the mag to bind in the gun.

Look for rub marks on the mag body.

Could be a weak mag spring not propelling it out as well.

You screwed one or more of the grip screw bushings/grip screws in to tight and it is rubbing the magazine body.

Try different mags first then report back.

If it worked fine before you took it apart, then listen to this guy.

You may have jiggered the trigger stirrup when you cleaned the gun & now the mag is dragging on it. Look through the mag well with a light & you'll see if the trigger stirrup is bowed in.

It had the same problem before reassembly.
I had him order a new mag online, he needs a spare anyway. Hopefully this one will work

Thanks for the responses.

One magazine with a semi auto pistol and suddenly the gun stops working properly,,,,,,,,

He doesn't need a spare anyway, he needs about five or six spares.

This guy is correct as I have done this myself. Sometimes tight is not good or too tight when it comes to grip screws. Get some Wilson Combat 47D mags or Tripp Cobra Mags and you wont have to worry. .45 ACP bullets are really heavy so it wears on the springs.
