Just a few questions since I've picked one up...

Heard that some are made in the U.S. and others aren't. Any truth to that and how to check?

Any recommended upgrades to the handgun?

They're made in Brazil.

Clean it.  Oil it.  Shoot at least 300 rounds out of it before expecting it to run smoothly.  Keep it oiled.

You'll be a happy camper.  Congratulations.

The "NM" serial number prefix implies that the pistol was finish machined, assembled, and tested in Illinois from components shipped from Brazil.  A plain "N" of "WW" serial number prefix implies that the pistol was machined-complete, assembled, and tested in Brazil.  There's an on-going debate as to whether one or the other is superior.  My "N" prefix Mil-Spec is just fine.  The point is that ALL Springfields up through the Cusom models have major components which were made in Brazil.  WW and N prefix means made complete in Brazil.  NM or CRG means finished and assembled in the States.  There may be other serial number prefixes but those are the only ones I'm aware of. What the actual percentages are for US content for the USA variants seems to be a major mystery that no one who knows will own up to.

If that's the case then I'm not going to worry about where it was made.  Doesn't sound like there's a quality difference.
