I just ordered a new Springfield TRP with rail.  I should pick it up over the weekend.  Anything that should be changed or replaced on it from the begining?  In your opinion what is some recommended improvements?

Thanks,

I think the most recommended improvement to a TRP is about 1000 rounds through the gun.

I'd start there.

Break it in first, then look to change what you don't like. Only change I would like to do to mine is a single sided safety (I don't like ambi's), but the ambi left a drag mark, so I am not going to mess with it. I find the 20 LPI frontstrap a little tough - I believe Springfield or any 1911 smith can dull the points and make it a little less aggressive.

Here is a pic of my Operator.

For me it was just an Ed Brown shorty guide rod and SS plug.  Good to go.

Also, be prepared for your Wilson mags to have slide lock issues.  Very common w/TRP's as I discovered.

Outside of that....WOW....what an awesome pistol!

Mine got completely de-MIM'ed and a different sight fitted.

if he got a railed version the guide rod/plug swap is a no go (unless of course you want to replace the bull barrel, the slide is already cut for a bushing)

anyway mine is 1500 round in flawlessly, and will lock with wilson 8 rounders

Yep, GR and plug swap. Wilson mags work perfect in my TRP. They are all I use.

Here's mine.

I replaced the grips with walnut from Brownell's.

I also took out the FLGR because I don't like having to use an allen wrench to disassemble it. I replaced it with a stainless plug and GI guide rod. I also replaced the magazine release with a stainless extended mag release. The stock one felt a little short.

Also, I took the ILS spring and plunger out of the MSH and replaced them with a standard weight spring and plunger (this has the added effect of disabling the ILS).

I can't think of anything that really needs changing on the TRP.

You really should change the fact that it has a low round count through it.

Congratulations!

All I changed out on mine was the FLGR like another user in here already mentioned. Now that I have read this thread, I also would like to remove the ambi thumb safety, there is no need for me and I find it rather irritating more than anything.

Congrats again, and enjoy shooting it! It's an awesome handgun.

Nice, have been looking for a railed TRP for a few weeks but nobody seems to have one in stock.  Did you find one through a local dealer who could order one in or did you order over the internet?

There's a couple on the EE right now for decent prices.

I love my TRP no need to change anything on it.  Right out of the box mine was shooting just as well as all my friends who have high end Les Baers and Wilson Combats.  I just do not like the rail on a 1911 but they are great pistol I got mine without the rail BTW.
