| I have the combat elite. I own several different 1911's, I love colt. they are the orignal, the one ive got is a pretty good gun, I ordered it and the first one i received had no plunger in the plunger tube. I dont know how that could happen. I worry about colts Quality control. They sent me another one and it was fine. after about two days i decided that the tumb saftey wasnt right. but thought oh well im going to upgrade the gun anyways. truned out there was a recall about 6months later. the gun shoots well, the roll markings are ok but should be better. Its not the tightest 1911 ive ever owned but colts never have been. I would never be afraid of a colt and either choice is great. I prefer the series 70's but they dont come with alot of the modern day enhancements. I went for the combat elite because it had novak sights and was two tone, I cant pass up a two tone colt. If the combat sights dont bother you id go series 70 if you can find one, If you want modern sights without having to send the slide off to be milled id say combat elite. I think either is fine, thats my 2cents. |

My stepdad had a new Combat Elite. Nice shooting gun. Very accurate. No problems after several hundred rounds. Quoted:
Where did you get those grips on the bottom one? Factory grips. Colt sells them separately if you like them. They're stunning. Do they make them in black/gray? And the bottom one, if for nothing other than the grip safety. |

Quoted: And I have a new Colt Combat Elite with none of the above problems...Quoted: Combat Elite. I want one, but won't buy one sight unseen, as I have seen some very ugly fitting jobs on current Colt pistols with fitted GS's. I agree. I bought a new Combat Elite a year ago. The slide to frame was rubbing at the dust cover. The plunger tube was hanging off, poorly mounted. The trigger pull was horrendous. I can't even remember the other things wrong. I'm a fool to have not done a thorough inspection before acceptance. I tried to have Colt fix things, but there was some smart-ass who was treating me like crap on the phone. I DX-ed the beast, and got something much better. Fugget it! (PS-I think Colt's fired the smart-ass) Some say never buy a Colt 1911 unless you can examine it first. I say never buy ANY gun unless you can examine it first (or get a liberal return policy). That's just simple common sense.

My next Colt 1911 is going to be a Rail Gun http://www.gunshowreview.com/SHOT_2009/Media_Day/images/00-01-14-09-0066.jpg. Got it. Changed the grips, and ditching the Novak rear, but other than that, perfect. |
