Ok so I took my brand new SA Champion to the range today. I had received it about 6 weeks ago, but there was no tritium tube in the front sight post. So I sent it back to SA, they send it back fixed 3 1/2 weeks later (took longer because they just did inventory). Today I put about 150rds through it fine, then the little pin in the front sight post was coming loose as I shot it. I kept pressing it back down. It never fell out, but it was coming a good ways out of the sight. Should I put a tiny drop of blue loc-tite on this to hold it in place? How should I go about fixing this?

Second question. I had about 4 FTF after about 200 rds. All of them except 1 was the first round of an 8rd wilson combat mag. Do these FTFs usually go away after the gun is broken in? Even before I shot it, it had problems loading the first round of the mag.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in, but here's what I think:

The feeding issues are likely mag-related.  Sounds like one mag was at fault for the majority of malf's?

I know some people silver solder front sights in place.  You could try getting that pin in nice and covering it with something less permanent like clear nail polish or loctite, but cleaning solvents will probably wear through it eventually.

I used the SA mags and Wilson 8rd mags, FTFs were with at least 2 different mags. Yea Im thinking maybe red loctite, but Im not expert either...

If I were picky, I'd send it back again and have them repin the front post.  As long as you're not messy, loctite or similar bonding glues will work fine.  On of my older 1911s front post is held in that manner. YMMV.

As far as your mags, I usually break mine in with 7 rounds in 8 round mags.  My 1911s (at first) seemed to have issues with 8 rounders with ONLY defense ammo (HPs).  After a few hundred rounds and a feed ramp polish, this issue resolved itself.  Some folks do not use 8 rounders period, because of possible reliability issues.  I would do a very thorough cleaning.  Next time you take it to the range, practice with the 8th round in the mag on each shot to try to reproduce the error.  Have a looksy next time it happens and you can see what's happening before you tap/rack it.  If you notice the round nosing down in the feedramp, you might just need to polish it up a bit, or use different mags (Tripp Cobra mags are effective at resolving this).

Thanks. I will call SA in the morning and see what they recommend. If they want me to send it back again I will see if they can cut me a deal on a feed ramp polish job 2 trips to the shop for a brand new handgun is too much.
