I was looking at a fusion 6" slide on auction arms, or guns amerca, or whatever, seemed pretty cheap, on sale for $185, almost as cheap as buying used. What raised my eye brow was that when I went to their web site they sell UTG (Chinese) holsters along side their $2,000+ guns

Is Fusion considered to be good quality, or like Sarco parts?

Fusion is good. Bob Serva (owner) knows what he is doing.  Used to own Dan Wesson.

Anyone know if they give a military/LE discount like Caspian does?

I still plan on buying an aluminum officers frame regardless, but I just wanted to know.

I've had one partially built that I finished.  They are a great company to work with and will answer any questions you have and help you get exactly what you want built.

Mine was built to be use for service pistol competition.  It's been 100% reliable and very accurate.

I have a Fusion bobtail commander in 45.  I consider it one of the best 1911s I 've seen, felt and shot.  I think Fusion is the best kept secret in the semi-custom 1911 category.

What really sets Fusion apart from other places is the sheer amount of configurations they will do.  Want a 10mm commander slab-slide config with press check?  Done.  Want a 9mm double stack long-slide?  Done.  They will do almost anything for you.

I have used a few of their parts in my existing 1911s and they are great too.

They make their slides and frames all in house. Check this thread out to see some of their machining processes:
http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=234533

Bob is a great guy to deal with, as mentioned above.  He's very responsive via phone or email.

No I am not affiliated with Fusion.  I just love the shit out of their stuff.

From what I've see in 1911auto and 1911forum, I believe he does offer some sort of service discount.

Hey, me too.

I just started getting pics emailed to me.  I am currently waiting to hear back from him about the grips i selected.  It took longer to build than he originally told me but I expect it will be worth it.

I'm already thinking about getting another one in 9mm.

I ordered it in May and was told to expect it in 14 weeks.  He just emailed me pics and although his time estimate was off a bit it will be worth it.

Exactly.  Same thing in the big 3 1911 sites.  Kelly just didn't read any of the reviews and just decided to make the assumption that Fusions suck.  Consensus among 1911 enthusiasts is that their complete guns and parts are fantastic quality for the money.

It is a shame this thread sputtered to a rather icky halt.  I would seriously like to know more about this manufacturer and its products, especially their offerings in 9mm.

Anybody want to try this again and tell us about your complete Fusion pistols?

They can build you whatever you want in 9mm, .40, .45, 10mm, 38 super and possibly 9x23, and in any kind of finish you want.  Their product page only lists the more popular models

I have a bobtail elite, and I love it.  I'll probably be buying a wide body in yukon early next year.

Not horribly surprising.  He emailed me about picking grips and I changed the finish that I wanted on the frame and slide.  Bob had it sent away for the ion finish and that was two weeks ago.  So I'm running on approx 6months right now.

I asked about this delay in another thread and it seems to be pretty typical.  Honestly that is ok with me as long as i get a firearm that is as good as their reputation.

It's comments like this that ruin online forums. Someone always has a story that he "Heard About", or a "Guy he knew said this".

Negative comments should be limited to personal expierence only. If you didn't own it and have the problem with it then stay out of it and let the grown-ups talk.

Tirador223,

I have no hands on experience with Fusion at all... I'm planning 4 projects next year... I would rather they be used Colt's because I'm thinking I can buy them cheaper than parts from Fusion or STI. Those 2 being my choices for ground up builds. That said. Fusion seems to offer more machining than STI. Machine time you can figure 85.00 to 100.00 an hour for man and machine. Going the Fusion route you can get a lot of machined service up front in a product that some of the top builders are using... Fusion pretty much sells itself. In finished or unfinished product, and you can spec your pistol more to your liking than with some other brands

The above is kind of what I am thinking, and after some thought have put a deposit down on a CCO model in 9mm.  Although this process has hardly started, I certainly am impressed with the responsiveness of Bob who runs Fusion.  Emails are answered pronto and he is very friendly to deal with.  This alone shows a lot of promise, and once we get the details worked out all that is left is the waiting.

Having a custom pistol built before and also some experience playing the NFA game has taught me patience, but it doesn't make it any easier.  In any event, my experience with Fusion has been more pleasant than I expected so far.

I have seen a couple guys have issues out of the box with Fusion stuff and Bob has always taken care of them.  One of them was a 10mm issue and it came down to the ammo.

I have a couple Fusion frames and the machining is top notch.  It was unbelievably easy to fit the parts to it.

I would definitely buy from them.

IMO/E Fusion makes/sells a lot of great products, although I can't comment on their holsters.  They built a bobtail commander for me almost 2 years ago, and it has been a great pistol.  I also used one of their 9mm commander kits to put together a 9mm.

The parts and fit of the kit are top notch, I just need to do some final fitting and adjusting, and mag work I think, and it should be good to go.  Unfortunately I didn't do enough reading before buying the kit, and I went with an unramped barrel.  While I don't believe the unramped barrel is causing any issues, I would definitely suggest going with a ramped barrel if you buy one to eliminate that item as a possible issue.

Bob Serva has been great to deal with, including the many, many questions I asked before committing any money to the two above projects.  While I haven't really had any issues, I have sent Bob several questions via email since buying these pistols, and he always answers quickly, and helpfully.

The only thing that might be seen as a negative with Fusion, is that they don't really get into the finer items you see with some of the semi custom 1911's.  I'm thinking specifically of blending an extended magwell into the frame.  This and other work are probably options available for an extra price if you ask.  Also, if you have Fusion build a pistol, or do specific work for you, be as specific as possible.  I didn't spec the front sight, other than tritium, and the pistol came with an XS big dot front sight (which I hate).  This was my mistake, not theirs.

To sum it up, I'm very happy with my Fusion pistols.  The only reason I wouldn't buy another one, is because I've got some other things on the want list that will come first.
