I have two questions arrising from recent observances regarding my pistol.

1. I noticed a few of my duty rounds have flat spots on the cartridge case rim and those same rounds have dimples on the side of the main body of the casing. It's only a few of my rounds, but I'm positive they are rounds that have been chambered into the gun and later taken out for cleaning/dry firing. I'm not sure if this happened to the rounds before or after I had my gunsmith work on the gun. I'm curious as to what is causing it and how big of a problem it potentially is.

2. I also noticed when going to clean/dry fire my gun that sometimes magazines won't drop free. I have to pull the magazine out and when I do I find that the top round in the magazine is seated slightly forward with the nose of the cartridge hanging over the edge of the magazine tube - likely what is causing the mag to hang. Is this related to feed lips, or possibly spring tension?

The ammo is Winchester Ranger and the mags are stock 8 round CMC Power mags.  Thanks ahead for any help.

On the first point, it would really help if you could post a pic. I am guessing the indentations are at the base of the cartridge just forward of the rim ? If so, your extractor may be too long - have your gunsmith look at it.

On the seonds point, the top round slifing forward is not necessarily abnormal, but clearly causes a problem. I would try heavier mag springs and see if this cures the problem.

#2 is caused by the slide riding over the second cartridge as it pushes the first into the chamber. In the real world, when is this going to cause a problem? CMCs already have heavier springs.

AASG, Only when he needs to reload and the magazine does not drop free. Now the OP could pratice the reload tech where you pull out each magazine.  I'd rather have mags that drop free.

I'd  see if you can find magazine dims for the feed lips.  If they check out replce the magazine springs. Suggestion Wolff +10% springs.

Loading a pistol is a rather violent event for soft barss. Your marks may just be normal "dings". Flat spots on the rim are caused fromthe extractor.  Dimples could be caused from the feed ramp or the ejector or the slide as the ammo is being ejected.
