WOW.

$300-$1000 is a HUGE range for 1911s.

What will the gun be used for?
Do you have any needs or preferences?

You can run anything from a basic 1911 to a nicely setup one, so what are you looking for?

You can get an STI for 680-700 for the Spartan.  Great weapons and very accurate.  They have alot of features you would not expect and have a very nice trigger.

I retract my Dan Wesson advice. I thought this was to be a serious weapon. A railed Taurus and a can of black muffler paint should fit the bill

Yeah, seriously.

Ok OP, you need to give more information than CCW and Tactical

How about:

"I'm looking for a well built 1911 that will be used for concealed carry and would most likely be brought with me to a carbine course."
or
"I'm looking for something cheap that will be reliable and will shoot straight."
or
"I'm looking for something that needs to be a tack driver because it will be my first attempt at a 1911 in 3 gun competitions."

Seriously.  Coincidentially enough, the answer for all thoses questions IS DIFFERENT in 1911s, this is not a Glock forum where the answer is always "9mm Glock"

I'd definitely look into the MC Operator and the Kimber Warrior like SGB suggested.

An STI Trojan or Dan Wesson would work too, but the DW is stainless, not parkerized if that matters to you.

For a little less you could look at a STI Spartan or a Springfield Loaded or a Kimber Custom II.  These then to run in the $700-$800 range which would leave extra money for mags and ammo.
