Hey Bee Hive, I'm looking for good ideas for a longslide 1911 (pics wanted very much). Are there any manufacturers out there to be recomended for one of these? I've seen the Springfield Loaded longslide and like it very much. So lets see 'em. Thanks. |
Old, and not very good, pic of my Les Baer Premier II. Paid the extra for the 1.5" at 50yd guarantee, although I will never shoot well enough to know.
Still damn tight after ~5000 rounds. eta link added |

Thanks for the replies. I like them. Who makes them? Are they custom made? Welcome to the forum, 4th- I think you'll find almost every mfr. has a 6" version available. Just cruise the websites, they're out there. I've added a link to my post to LB, and you'll find the longslides in the "versatile 1911's..." section of the site. Happy Hunting! |

I'm building a 9mm longslide for my father. We are trying to come up with a different cocking serration style to try on this one. We've been playing around with different ball end mills on some practice blanks. Still not sure where we are going to end up, but I have some ideas for using a saw cutter and some trig.
Not sure when I'll have it done, but he'll probably post some pictures of it sometime when that day comes. Bob |

In fact i can say that is one of the most beautiful single stacks that ive ever seen. |

effinNewGuy, that is one slick looking pistol. Is that a high cap or single stack frame? It's single stack. Just a race ready frame (which translates to integral mag well). ETA Thanks for the compliments guys. Makes it worth while to cobble one together when someone else enjoys it. |

Details? Did you build that yourself or have it made to specs? I really like it. Caspian Arms made my frame and slide. They did the sight cuts, cocking serrations, beveled the slide edges and cut a custom serial number. Local smith installed my barrel and link. I did everything else. Bought the tools, stones, files, Kuhnhausen books, internal parts fitted by myself: trigger, hammer, sear and disconnector, MSH, rear and front sights, thumb safety, grip safety, firing pin stop, mated the frame to slide [about a week of stoning and filing], fit the slide stop, fit bushing to slide, barrel to bushing, highly polished the curved areas of the pistol, regular polish of the flats [just to be different], went through several grip fittings and settled on the walnut you see in picture, but I shoot with Carbon Fiber grips in black. The grip safety I had to trim (file and sandpaper and bead blast) the memory bump a bit as I didn't enjoy the full length bump Caspian Arms had originally. The Kuhhausen books were well worn after a year and a half building this pistol. They are invaluable. |

My ideal would be a combo of Vipers and FNGs. I like the integral magwell, but prefer no FCS. Good to know you can do all that yourself. I have the books and they are well thumbed, but I don't have the place (or enough tools) to work on my own guns. I've fitted some small parts like thumb safeties and MSHs.
Nice job guys. This thread delivers so far! |

Nice work, pw- How much do the lightening cuts help the slide speed? That's one thing I really noticed shooting my Baer 6" back when I did IPSC, was that the slide speed and mass really made it seem kind of slow compared to it's shorter bbl'd brethen. Glad to see you don't mind working on Para's, either. |

| I'd like to see someone build an extra-long frame to take a 10-round mag flush. That would balance out the look of the long slide. You'd have to make custom grips but that's about all. You could leave the standard MSH assembly in place, and just put a filler block below it. |
