I'm looking for a general purpose holster for IDPA, IPSC, 3-gun, and open carry. No "game" holsters with open fronts. No retention strap. No leg holsters. No IWB holsters. The mouth of the holster must remain open for easy one-handed holstering. No desire for FBI cant.
The gun in question is a STI Spartan which is a full-size, 5" model. I hear lots of good stuff about the Blackhawk SERPA. I have a Blade-Tech DOH for my CZ and like that. |
OP - you should do some research on the durability of the Serpa for open carry. My partner's Serpa ripped off it's mount when it snagged on the seat belt getting out of his car. We read up on it and found out he is not alone. Some people love the Serpa, and I admit it functions nicely, but I consider it a range only holster because of what I saw. He called Blackhawk and they said "we've never heard of that issue". I guess they don't have internet access

I'm also coming across some posts that talk about the release lever getting jammed with debris, but most of these are older posts. Did BH refine the design? |

Not sure if they've re-designed, but this came up in my rifle class less than a month ago. The facilitator, John (1911sForever), told us about a student he had in one of his pistol classes get a rock jammed under the release tab and they couldn't get the gun out of the holster. Seeing as I've met and talked to the guy, I know he's not full of shit. it may be an isolated incident i.e. low probability but it has happened. I know others that love them. |

I now have a Blade-Tech for my USPSA gun but have had a couple of the C-T paddles for IDPA and such in the past. As the guns were traded, the holsters went with them and the only Comp-Tacs I have left are IWB. |
