just picked up my first 1911. it is a colt goverment modle. is it normal to have to hold in the mag release to be able to feed a new mag,
i can put a mag in about halfway untill it catches on something. If i hold the mag release button in, I can feed it the rest of the way in. I doesn't seem right to me, but this is my first 1911 so i don't know |

I just double checked both mags. they will go all the way in but it takes a little more force then i'm use too. after about half way they need a little more to get them past that point.
yes it is new and it happens with both colt mags that it came with. guess its just time to break it in |
| Sounds like a break-in issue. The mag should drop in on its own weight half way, and then an easy slap of the base with the palm of your hand should send it home. It should drop free on its own weight when the mag release is pressed. The mag release is easily removed for clean-up if the problem doesn't fix itself. |
