| Picked up a used springfield loaded, had 2000 stamped on the frame so I'm assuming that's the year of manufacture. Does anyone know when they made the switch to mim part? It has the older 2 piece barrel design and it shoots fine, you can push down on the hood and there is movement, I realize it's not a huge deal but i'll prolly have a kart NM thrown in there. Just wondering if the fire control parts are mim, cast, or forged? Thanks |

I am by no means any sort of Springfield expert. However, I was unaware they Springfield was/is using MIM parts in their guns? I knew Kimber & Colt were, but not SA.
As for the bbl hood movement, most 1911s will have some sort of minimal movement there unless the gun is REAL tight on lock-up. I support your decision to junk the two-piece bbl in favor of a NM model of a better brand. I swapped my two-piece out on my SA mil-spec & my groups dropped in half or better. My bbl of choice was a Wilson, but Kart is every bit as good, if not better. My .o2 |
