Anyone own one and what are your experiences with it?

Looking for a new Concealed Carry Piece.

Local store has a used one for $1049 or new for $1249.

Any advice is appriciated.

If there is another 3 inch 1911 that is comparable in quality and price please let me know what to look for.

Thanks!

I was brought in by the bells & whistles included on the Ultra so I bought one a few years ago with the external extractor. Immediate problems with extracting. It was returned to Kimber, they replaced the extractor, bbl, and claimed they test fired it before stiffing me on the ~$70 shipping they had agreed to pay.
Failed to feed upon receipt. They said I needed to shoot 500 rds. before they would look at it  or I could send it in on my dime again.
I chunked it in the back of the safe & kind of forgot about it for a couple of years. A coworker wanted to trade for it a while back & in all good conscious I couldn't do it so I started fooling with it again.

Good Points?
I've found it performs flawlessly with Tripp mags & Corbon 165g PB ($1 a pop); but nothing else & it's the only 1911 I own that fits in the console of my car.
Accuracy @ 15yds equal to my S70 Colt gov't.

I'd get a Springfield.
Sorry you asked?

I got this one.....no probs.  YMMV.

Extractor is sometimes a bit finicky.

I just picked up a new in box Ultra CDP last Friday, took it to the range on Monday. I shot 150 of my reloads and 30 Hydro-shocks. That little 1911 eat it all with zero malfunctions and alot of the shooting was rapid fire. I would never buy a 1911 with an external extractor, know matter who made it. I also own a CDP-PRO, bought it in 2001(internal extractor) and a Kimber Tactical Custom bought a few months ago. All have been nothing but reliable and tack drivers to boot.

The 3" guns no matter who makes them can be more problematic then the 4" or 5" guns, if I were you I would buy the new gun. You never know if a used gun is someone dumping a lemon.

I used to own one. I bought it to serve as my warm weather CCW. Overall it was a good subcompact 1911.
It took longer than other guns to break in and I did have some of the failures associated with a three incher. After 800+ rounds along with learning what ammo it favored and it ran great.
With time, I was carrying my SigP245 in warm weather more often than the Ultra CDP. The need of a tool for field stripping was giving me pause as to the carry question. That, along with the inch longer bbl moved me to sticking to the P245 for warm weather carry.

Not saying the Ultra CDP isn't a great pistol, that was just my personal choice regarding carry. I wouldn't steer anyone away from aquiring one.

Price seems high.  Local chain store has them new for $1099, saw a used on at the show last weekend for $800.
