I am very new to 1911s.  I bought my first one 6 months ago and I am hooked.  I will be buying a Rock Island Armory Compact in .45 . I think this is an "Officers Model," but I"m not sure.  I comes with only one 7rd mag.  My question is, what mags to buy for it?   Would I buy 7rd mags or do they have to be for the Officers model.  My question is not so much what brand of mag, but rather what size.  Thanks in advance.

standard size for an officer is a 6 rounder. Its shorter than a standard GI.  i would stick with those...

officer mags are the correct size. you can use government for range use if you want an extra round or two depending on how you feel about the length. But something like a wilson officer will hold 7 rds anyway

The ACT/Novak mags that RIA uses are +1 mags.  The standard size holds 8 and the Compact or Officers mag holds 7.  Any officer sized mag will fit flush.

I've used a RIA compact as my carry gun for over a year.  LOVE IT>
