I have a 1911 that was buggered when some nice fellow welded the barrel to the front of the ejection port on a stainless gold cup national match (almost made me cry seeing it that way). i had to cut a chunk out of the barrel breech to under cut the weld and remove the slide and barrel from the frame. the frame and other parts minus slide and barrel remain untouched. questions are...
does anyone know some that could repair the slide for a resonable price compared to me buying a brand new slide from fusion? i know i can use a commander length slide on the frame. can i use an officer's upper on the frame? i am thinking about making this into a 9mm for my GF to shoot. does anyone have a complete 9mm 1911 commander or full size upper they want to trade with the complete upper off of my colt towards the trade? thank you for your assist. |

Without seeing the slide, it's impossible to say if it's even repairable. I imagine someone could indeed weld up the metal then grind it back into shape, but it's going to look awful.
1) If you want to change calibers on a 1911, you have to get a slide for that caliber. They are commonly made in three breach face sizes: a) .38 Super/9mm b) .40/10mm c) .45acp Besides an entirely different slide assembly, you also have to change the ejector and slide stop on the frame, and of course magazines. 2) Putting a commander slide on a government frame is not always so simple - the frame rails on a Commander are slightly shorter, and the machining at the frame bridge is slightly different, too. You need to know what you are doing and what components you are mating together. I do not think officer's slides will work on Government frames, but I have not personally tried that. |
