I am looking into my next 1911 build.
I am looking for suggestions as to what you would want on a carry gun.
This is mostly for my information, so that I don't unintentionally forget something.

I want a cc gun.
So let's start with the frame & slide:  commander frame & slide or officer frame & commander slide (CCO)
frame maker:
slide maker:
finish: blue, stainless, parkerized, other coating product, two tone
barrel:
msh:
trigger:
hammer:
safety:
sights: (definitely want night sights here)
grips:
internal parts:
details (serrations, checkering, etc.:
magazines:
don't forget the holster (will probably get two IWB and slide):

This is going to be a bit scattered.

All stainless parts
Frame/Slide: Caspian or Fusion. The size is a personal preference.
Finish/Metal Treatment: Melonite or IonBond
Internals: Wilson Combat or Ed Brown, don't cheap out on internals, trust me.
Trigger: I like Greiders. They're nice and easy to install.
Ignition: I personally like the C&S drop in kits, they're beautiful. Mine dropped in just about 100%.
Barrel: Kart or Bar-Sto.
Grips: This is a personal preference. I like Larry Davidson's horned lizard grips.
Magazines: CMC PowerMag, Wilson 47D, Tripp CobraMags. All of these 3 are good.
Sights: I like Heinie's Straight 8 SlantPro sights.

Other specifications:
I'd get the gun mildly dehorned.
25 lpi checkering.
Integral plunger tube.
You'd probably want to get a tactical narrow thumb safety, rather than a wide, for carry.

While building a 1911 might be cool it might not save you money and in fact probally cost more than a semi custom pistol if you pay some one to do it.  I'm doing all the work and my build is going to cost around $1500, granted I got every option on the Caspian slide and only using Wilson and Ed Brown parts along with a Nowlin barrel.  Add $150 for DVD's and books and it adds up.  I think if I had to to it again I pay a few hundred bucks more and get a Les Baer but I don't get the satisfaction of saying I built it. If you plan on keeping it forever than I'd do it but if you are considering trading it in you will be lucky to get what you paid for the slide and receiver.

That said if you are going to build you should be happy with a Caspian or Fusion for slide and receiver.  If you want to splurge get the Les Baer.  Stick with quality parts and go slow (my slide to frame is a little looser than I would like and that's cause I took too much metal off the rails).  It took Caspian little over 2 months to get me my slide and receiver so you might want to consider that.  When it's all said and done I'll have a really nice pistol and you will know intimately the workings of a 1911.

This will be build number 2.
This is a gun to keep.
Forget about my personal preference for answers.
Tell me what you would like for cc gun.
I like what I have read about Fusion frames and slides.
I am also local to C&S and can get their parts pretty quickly.
But that does not mean that they will be the sole supplier of parts.
Have to look into the Heinie sights.  I haven't had much experience with night sights.

Keep replies coming

grips?  holsters?  trigger?  etc?

Would anyone consider starting off with a Colt Commander or Commander XSE and modify that to your liking?

So far
Fusion frame with chain link front strap
Fusion slide, round top, serrations front & back
Novak sights
Vzee grips
kart barrel
still looking at the various triggers, hammers, msh, internals

Ditch the front slide serrations, why uglify a gun on purpose.

This one came in at about a thousand bucks...............
Foster frame/caspian slide
storm lake barrel
novak sites
ED Brown internals
some final tweaking and media blasting at the hands of a 1911 guru...................

IMHO a concealed carry firearm should be box-stock. Also, no handloads. Just imagine if you have to use it some day and start thinking of questions from either a state prosecutor or plaintiffs attorney.
