Ive been wanting to get a 1911 for a long time and my first choice was a Kimber or a Springfield. Problem is I keep hearing all these storys about Kimbers cs. I really like the kimbers but Im not going to spend that kind of money with a company that wont stand behind their product. So Im thinking a trp. Any suggestions for a 1911 rookie?

Kimbers and SA are both good guns, but I lean towards an SA myself. Every manufacturer has issues now and then with a gun that somehow escapes the factory in a less than perfect functional state. Most of the time (aside from some part breaking) any problem can be corrected by the owner. One of the things I love about 1911's is that I can work on them myself. Unless you're really mechanically challenged, so can you. And learning the in's and out's of the gun can allow you to fine tune it yourself, and correct any minor function issues.
You might also check out STI, Para Ordinance and (cough) Taurus. I own 3 and they are all great guns. Never a failure of any kind and very accurate. If you're looking at an entry level Kimber or SA, see if you can find a Metroarms American Classic II....fantastic gun for way low price. |
