Hi.  I'm just getting back into shooting after nearly 10 years out of the sport.  I mean I've hit the range but maybe once a year whereas I used to go pretty regularly.  Back in 1999 when I was still in CT, I had a stainless Colt Commander that I'd sent to Wilson and had about $400 in work done on it to where it was exactly what I wanted.  I was selling my house and emptying things out and wouldn't you know, some turds broke in and stole all of my stereo stuff, my colt and my HK USP while I was literally unloading things at my parents (temporary storage) .  Anyway, I'm in VA now and have hit 4 local stores and haven't seen any Colt 1911s buy plenty of Kimbers, some Springfields.  Is there an availability issue or has the brand declined while i've "been away?"  I asked one of the shops and I was told the reliability isn't there anymore, the company isn't any good, he can't recommend them unless it's a SAA and the Kimber's much better for the money.  I asked another place and I was told they probably could get it but didn't carry them.  So I guess my questions are: is this guy right? Would I be better off with a Kimber as he suggested?   i realize this is probably a ford vs chevy type question but i did read back thru posts until january to see if I could figure out what's going on.  Seems like Colt still has a good reputation amongst the owners here.

also, if someone feels there are other sites I should check out in addition to this one, feel free to IM or email me.  I've been using this one to learn alot about ARs (duh, it's in the URL title)

Thanks

Mike

They are out there, but not every shop has a bunch of them.   I hang around one of the larger shops in the area, and they have a shelf of about 12 or 14.   They don't seem to be moving very well;most newbies have been successfully marketed to, and are wanting an Imbel Armory or Mimber.

A couple smaller shops get them in sporadically.
