I handled a Kimber Pro Carry II today, and loved it. Loved the weight, the look, everything....then ol' memory kicked in and I remembered reading about recurrent problems with Kimbers, and hearing that QC there has gone down the crapper.

Can anyone recommend something similar in size/weight for the same price ($750) or cheaper that's more reliable than the Kimbers?

I just took my brand new Custom II to the range for the first time today. 100 rounds of Blazer and Sellier without a single hitch with both a stock mag and a Wilson Combat 47D.

If you have the gun in your hands you can see if it has any major QC issues. Check it over and cycle it. If everything looks good buy it.

Lots of options, but you won't find many aluminum framed pistols at that price.

I have a Kimber Custom II that I thought was great, and posted numerous times about, until I started having some problems with it and noticed some peening and other issues.  I hope it can be fixed, but I'd have to have a competent smith look one over before I purchased again.   I just can't understand how 5-6k rounds would cause the issues I had on an all steel gun.

Can you post pics of the issues?  If not, what kind of problems exactly?  Peening where?

And to the OP: I'd just look over the Kimber and see if everything looks good.  If so, and it's what you want, get it.  I wouldn't be too concerned about buying a Kimber.

your Kimber will likely be just fine..that said, Dan Wesson is coming out with an aluminium framed COO model very soon and the quality will likely be very good indeed

Yeah, but since the CBOB goes for around $950, I expect the CCO to be around $1100.  (I s SO want one though)

The Kimber will likely be fine though.
