| Was looking for another toy at the gun store yesterday, and was shown a Taurus PT1911. Wasn't even looking for a Taurus and have never owned one, but this pistol looked and felt good. The owner said he has shot two different guns, and both shot very well. With all the goodies the gun comes with (ambi saftey, checkering, etc..) plus night sights for $589.00 has really got me looking hard at it. Wondering if anyone else out there has one, and how they liked it. Thanks |

I have one, and I like it. 1000s of rounds, no failures. When they first came out, they were a lot cheaper, and the deal was more tempting. That's when I got mine. Now, they've gotten more expensive, and there are more alternatives for the same money. But, do some searching on here, there are plenty of threads about 'em. |
| I bought one when they first came out as well. It is plenty acurate and has never malfunctioned. There is a lot of Taurus hate and I am sure a lot of it is justified but I feel like the PT1911 is a good value and I really haven't heard anything negative about it. |

Thanks guys, looks like I will be adding the Taurus to the stable. Both guys at the gun store talked very highly of it after shooting it, and one did say he shot it better than the kimber he was shooting at the same range session.
Haters are usually all about a name, and not performance. Drink the Kool-aid enough and you'll believe anything. |

| I bought one not long after they first came out (when they were cheap). Mainspring was too short from the factory so the hammer wouldn't fall all the way –– after a new mainspring, it's eaten 1500-2000 rounds without a hiccup. Excellent gun, I'm really happy with it. |
| Yeah... it's not like they're expensive now. A $570 railed 1911 with all those extras is impossible to find without scoring an unbelievable deal on a used firearm. They are still the best bang for your buck in this post-Obama world (1911s anyway). I have the railed one and I'm absolutely amazed by how well it shoots and functions. Only problem I had was resolved after replacing the factory mags with some Wilson Combat ETMs. It's the only 1911 I trust (after hearing secondhand horror stories about Kimbers/Springfields/etc) |

I like mine. No problems with it at all. I do not know the round count but would estimate around 1000 rounds or so.
The "Straight 8" took some time to get used to. They are more of a combat style sight and I am used to three dot sights. Most of the problems I have read about online seems to be with the ambi-safety. Oh and the finish on them seems to be on the thin side. Wears some. The good thing is if something does go wrong with it, you have a lot of aftermarket support as far as replacement parts. I would not send it back to Taurus. I have heard they are quite slow for warranty work/repairs. |

What is a used gun like this worth? I am negotiating a trade . . Supposed to be new with 100 rounds through it. http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o394/NARFBIRKENSTOCK/1Taurus.jpg http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o394/NARFBIRKENSTOCK/2Taurus.jpg $500 |

They're ok.
Had one (railed model), but I just swapped it on a S&W 1911. Mine had problems with light primer strikes out of the box, but the shop owner took it to a local smith (a good one) and had him tweak it a bit. It did better, but I never really came about to fully trusting it again. I was considering having the hi-viz sights swapped for night sights as well as swapping out some of the internals, and I decided it was just a better idea to spend the money on a gun with an overall higher quality. For the price they're good guns, but I really only recommend them to those who can't or won't spend the extra for a Springfield, S&W, Kimber, or the like. |

I met a guy at the range a few weeks ago who had one. He liked it ok, but he showed me the difference in a PT1911 and a high quality piece.
He held the Taurus in his hand and shook it real hard, and you could plainly hear it rattle. He then picked up his Les Baer PII and did the same thing...Not a sound. |

I own one, and can tell you from personal experience that if you have to use their customer sevice, you're fucked. I'd rather take an ass whipping than send it back to them again.
Having said that, its been 100% since they replaced the barrel and safety. $480 NIB, a couple years ago. a-bare |
| I bought one on base back in November when they were offering the $75 rebate on PT 1911s. Got the two-tone model for $505 after it was all said and done. I was told when I bought it that they were having a lot of problems w/ the ambi safeties breaking and sure enough after 10 rounds mine broke! Instead of dealing with customer service I bought a Wilson combat right handed safety (with the money I saved from the rebate) and shaved it down and installed it myself. My only other complaint is that it won't feed defense ammo (tried factory and chip mccormick mags without any luck). Seems it just likes round nose ball type. Might have to do some work on the feed ramp. Add some $12 hogue grip panels and it will feel perfect. Good luck |
