Thinking of buying a new carry 1911. Does anyone have a Springfield EMP? What are your thoughts on them? Are they worth 1000$ ? Was also looking at the Kimber Ultra Covert II...Any thoughts on them you can share? Thanks guys.

No one has anything good or bad to say about either of them?

I'm a full size or Commander man myself. 1911s carry so wonderfully anyway that there's no reason to sacrifice the advantages of a full grip and barrel just to save a little weight. Why not get a lightweight Commander and call it good? No one in an active gunfight ever said...Gee! I wish I had a smaller gun!

The Springfield EMP I fired was pretty nice, though it had some Failure to Return to Battery issues.  It was still new, though.

I haven't fired a Kimber that didn't have issues, so given the two choices, I'd say EMP based on personal usage and from other's experience.

To Kimber owners, that doesn't mean you don't have one that's great.  Just that I would love to fire it, because the ones I've shot have been poor examples.

I have actually had 3 of the ultra compacts over the years. 2 Kimbers and 1 Springfield. I keep coming back to a 5" 1911 as my primary carry gun. If you do get one of the ultra-compacts I would recommend changing the recoil springs FREQUENTLY if you want to keep it running smoothly. Like every 500 rounds.

Over 12 Kimbers owned at one time or another, and everyone had problems.

Buy a Springfield.

If there is going to be a problem with a 1911, it will be one of the tiny, little ones you are referring to, and if you do have problems, Springfield will go out of their way to make it right, Kimber may, or may not get your problem taken care of.
