There are three Operators, I think––the Loaded Operator for about $1k, The TRP Operator for about $1500, and the Pro Operator for $2.5K, each having features that are supposed to justify their price. The differences are explained pretty well at the Springfield Armory websiteSA, as well as the Springfield Board on www.1911forum.com.
I have one and am very happy with it. Whether there are competing offerings that are a better value, I can't say. I don't follow the other brands very much, but I think Kimber is the only supplier that has offerings in the general price range as the two lower end SAs. Kimber has a loyal following. Wilson has a competing offering(s) at the high end, and their value is well known. All of the SA models are very hard to find right now for reasons that aren't real clear. |

You forgot the LW Operator You're right. I think it has the same features as the Loaded Operator. There's also the Commander size (Champion) Operator as well. Champions are 4", which are the same size as SA & Kimber compacts, and I believe all the 4" have a bull barrel. The Commanders are 4.25" with a std bushing barrel. .25 doesn't seem like much until you see the two side-by-side, or actually try to find a damned recoil spring in stock for a 4" |
