I remember reading about this caliber years ago and never really followed up on it. Is it still a viable caliber, or has it had problems? I notice it hasn't been very popular lately.
I have a new, unused set of dies I ended up with in a trade, but I never pursued the conversion.
Now I found a barrel, bushing and spring kit for sale. It has a Briley barrel so I know the quality is good.

Is there any reason to not play with this caliber?
Are the bullets hard to come by?
Can I just install the spring, barrel and bushing and be good to go?
When I handload is it as easy as running some .45acp brass through the .400 CorBon sizing die and using the same primers and powders as in my .45acp loads? I have been using WST and Winchester Large Pistol Primers.

A barrel swap is probably all that's needed, I don't think you even need to change the spring.

The problem with the .400 cor-bon is that it's pretty limited.  With 135 grain bullets it can approach 10mm velocities, with 180 grain bullets it approaches .45 acp velocities. (i.e. no gain)

If you have a use for light/fast bullets it could be interesting...

If you have the interest the dies, and a lead on good parts, I see no reason not to play with the round as an interesting distraction for recreation or some special use. If you were looking at defense, I wouldn't stray from .45ACP. In fact, I would go the opposite direction and go .45 Super if you wanted something fast with high pressure.

The .45 Super is another caliber that gets my attention.
I found a new Briley barrel, bushing and spring in .400 CorBon for sale- $150.00, and since I have dies I wanted to look into it.
It is starting to sound like I may pass on it. It doesn't seem like a big step up, or any improvement.
I usually get bored in winter and start thinking up projects. I really should be spending my time dry firing to practice for bullseye. I want my scores to go up about 25-30 points this year. I have hovered around 820 out of 900 for too long.
