Today I took the two piece guide rod out and put in a GI type with the little shortrod and a stainless end cap . Do you think this was a wise move ? Or should I have went with a one piece rod

If the number of postings on the various 1911 Boards, its a very common mod for SAs of all types that come from the factory with the two-piece rod.  Have never seen a posting which indicated this mod had any negative impact on function of the pistol. I switched both of mine because it became loose during use, required another tool to take down, and was a bitch to put back together.  Those problems have gone away with the mod. My opinion  is  that if the two-piece is not giving you any issues, don't mess with it.  If it is, it's an easy mod with absoulte assurance that it will fix the problems as listed above.

I removed mine, and remove it from all 1911's I purchase that have FLGR's.  They are useless and only complicate disassembly.

I tred i out today with no problems. But I had a new one piece rod from a kimber tac 2 I put in and seems alot smoother I mean alot I still have the fact 2 piece Iput it in my parts box .with the GI rod  .I think Iwill just go withe one piece rod
