Noob question incoming!
Does anyone know who makes a standard mil-spec 1911 that can fire hollowpoints?
Thanks

Hey I warned ya!
I don't know why but for some reason I was under the impression that mil-spec models generally wouldn't feed and/ or fire hollowpoints correctly. I stand corrected.

i guess i can understand that...in my opinion: it will vary on the maker of said mil-spec and the type of HP you run (HPs have diff shapes, and some do tend to feed more reliable than others) and the quality of the mags

* bear in mind, any HG or 1911 (regardless if its a milspec or more 'loaded' type) may not reliable feed all HPs

Original GI guns that are not throated/ramped may have dificulty feeding hollow points.  The feeding process of the 1911 is pretty brutal, and they can be finicky.

That being said, my 1980's manufacture Springfield was choking on everything when I got it.  (When I got it it was missing parts, but it was complete when I test fired it).  I found that the extractor and recoil spring needed replacement.  Since then It has worked with 230gr FMJ from a few manufacturers, Federal hydrashock 230gr and 185gr, Winchester 230 gr HP, Hornady TAP and XTP, some handloads using Speer 200gr HP and even 200gr lead semi-wadcutter target loads.

My Fusion kit built pistol, hasn't found a load it won't eat either.

Of course I keep my 1911's clean and well lubed, and neith pistol has been subjected to "hard use" since I've had them.  Springs become important on these pistols more frequently than some other pistol designs, but they're cheap and easy insurance to reliable function.

Of the GI model 1911s out there I think Spingfield still has the best reputation for a good product and good customer service if you need it.

Generally speaking they will all feed modern 3rd gen HP bullets, or even some of the more advanced 2nd gen bullets.

The only problem I've ever had was with the old Speer "flying ashcan" rounds, and Hydroshoks can cause problems in a lot of guns since they are a truncated cone design.

Gold Dots, Win-T, HST  (all 3rd gen) should feed just fine in any 1911design.

Back in the early 80s, I found out that my old neighbor's 1911A1 (pre WW2 manufacture with US Government Property written on the side, and no mods) would feed flying ashtrays just fine.

I have an Ithaca GI 1911A1 that has NEVER malfuctioned. I feed it mostly ball, but also 200gr LSWC handloads. About two years ago it ran through 100 rounds of my handloads using 200 gr Hornady XTP JHPs with no problems at all.
