Are Nighthawk Custom and Wilson Combat the same company? I just visited both sights and they both have the same Berryville Arkansas address! I also looked at both on gunbroker and noticed that the test targets on both were signed off by the same guys. What gives? I thought these were two independent companies!
Anyway I looked at both tonight at a gunshop and the cheapest model the shop owner had for sale was $2300.00! I have a Springer Mil-Spec with 2K rounds through it without a hiccup and shoots much better than I do. Aside from looking like it was drug behind a truck and I only paid $500.00 for it please tell me what justifies the cost difference between the springer and the mil-spec. I absolutely would trust my life to this cheapo 1911 (the only one Ive ever had that has worked flawless I might ad). I want to buy a "high end" 1911 so convince me! |

Not even on speaking terms as far as I know. |

The folks at Night Hawk & Gun Crafters all used to work at Wilson Combat before they started their own companies! Some of the same gunsmiths work part time at all three shops!
If you are interested in a custom 1911 contact Steve at the Ozark Outpost in Harrison, AR. Steve opened a small gun shop on his own that his wife runs (Great lady by the way!) Steve builds Wilson's Master Grades!! But he does some on the side also. Ozark Outpost (870) 743-9466 |

On the high end 1911 you get quality machined parts that are hand fitted to the gun. On the standard production 1911 you get mostly MIM parts. On the high end 1911, most of them have all the spec checked to make sure it's super accurate and reliable. On the production 1911, you are just getting a produciton 1911, you may get one that's accurate and reliable or you may not. Most of the time high-end 1911 will be more accurate and reliable. It's really a presonal preference. Some people don't like MIM part in their 1911, so they want a 1911 with all the tool-steel parts that are hand fitted to the gun. |

I understand that a lot of 1911 owners and purists dont want MIM parts on their 1911's but I can say as one who is a career machinist and a degree holder in machine tool technology MIM parts are metallurgically the same as machined barstock. If the build calls for 4140 or say a specific type of tool steel then that is what the MIM part is made of. This is simply a newer technology and allows for leaner production and at a cost that can be passed down to the consumer. Like I said earlier my personal experience has been with higher reliability in the cheaper 1911's. Think AK47 and how sloppy and poorly put together most are but they are notoriously reliable. As far as accuracy is concerned the cheapest Springer G.I. Model will out shoot 99.9% of us especially at realistic combat distances. I guess Im just looking for someone to convince me that I need to drop some serious coin on one of these beutiful handmade 1911's |

A Casio tells time just like a Rolex. Why do some chose a Ferrari over a Ford Fiesta? They both will do the speed limit. Those who enjoy the Rolex or the Ferrari don't need to be convinced to buy one, neither do those who choose high end 1911's. You simply need to shoot a finely crafted and precision tuned 1911 to truely appreciate it.
If it isn't your thing, then it isn't your thing. No one here is gonna convince you of it. |

They aren't the same company as many others have stated, though Nighthawk was started by ex-Wilson Combat employees.
I have a Nighthawk Enforcer and I can say it was worth every penny. It fires so much smoother than my Springfield GI and is much more accurate without having the overly tight match barrel/bushing on my Springer. I take it apart without a bushing wrench because I've never felt the need to use one with it. Everyone who's fired the Enforcer asked me what Nighthawk's prices start at because they all want one :) As of others have recommended, if you can find someone who owns a high end 1911 and ask them if they'll let you shoot it, you'll see what we mean. |
