Does it really cost $700?  Can you just buy one or doe it have to be installed by Novak's shop?  I like the idea of no grip safety rather than just disabling it.

It is available only as an installed item through Novak.

$700 is what the website says.

I think it would be cheaper to have one custom made by a machine shop

for 700 I'd file the grip saftey.

For $700 I would leave it alone and use the gun how it was intended.

If you are having problems deactivating the grip saftey then you are probably not holding the gun right .

The answer to what...

actually, John Browning originally designed the gun without a grip safety. the only reason he reluctantly put one on the gun is because the army required it.

I don't allow the gun to tell me what to do.

Wrong, he designed it without a manual safety, he thought the grip safety would be sufficient.

The army then and now still believe a manual saftey is a must
This is "improvement" is about the same as the full length guide rod in my opinion, stupid and so unnecessary.

What necessitates $700 for that?

the higher your grip the more of a chance you have of not activating the grip safety. This why you see grip safeties with a bump on the bottom.

only 1911 with the gs deactivated is my 2011.

All the time it takes to hand fit.

How many of you have actually seen a beavertail fit properly?

I will tell you this, its a beautiful piece. I handles a few of Wayne's guns at SHOT with the "Answer", and it was very impressive. It really changes how the gun feels in the hand. I like it.

Innovative, but not for me.  I like the double safety and I won't remove a series 80 system.  I've been very succesful in changing out the plunger spring with a Wolff reduced power and simply high polishing the mating surfaces of the series 80, combined with a good hammer and sear from Cylinder and Slide, the results are a series 80 that feels pretty darn close to a series 70.  Close enough that many can't tell a difference.

My hat is off to anyone that tries something different.  I don't think anyone will re-invent the wheel on these guns, but a lot of people through the years have made this weapon one bas a$$ firearm.

Actually, it is just the opposite.  If you have a proper high grip hold, many people will not activate the grip safety.

Yep.  My grip safeties are tuned to disengage with hardly any movement.  Still work, but I don't always get a "perfect grip".  My limited gun has been disconnected though.

Well I have been competing with a 1911 for some time now, I have yet to ever, not even once, been able not to disengage the safety. I also have a very high grip and small girly hands....

Huh?!

If the gun tells you to carry it cocked and locked, do you ignore it and carry it cocked and unlocked?!

I'm not going to let some damned gun tell ME what to do!

Personally, I think the $700 would be better spent on ammo. Then you could spend time on the range using the pistol as it was designed rather than spending that same money "fixing" something that ain't broke.

Thats awesome...for you.  The fact is that many people for decades have had problems with the grip safety and everyone from Jeff Cooper to Texas Rangers have advocated disabling them
