The Wilson Combat 1911 building DVD set.  Can't wait to see it.  The kits from Fusion really have me itching to try building a 1911.  I love my Wilson CQB but would really like to learn to build these myself.

Anyone viewed the DVD and built their own 1911?  Any tips?  ( I already read the sticky, repeatedly).

My balls still retract at the mere thought of it but I'm filing and grinding on a stainless SA right now and one day hope to work up the nerve to take the plunge.

Fusion offers good stuff, I have not seen the DVD you are referencing. I have bought three barrels from Bob Serva and I have no complaints about them. I'm currently using one in a Springfield GI model I converted to 9mm.  Ramped stainless drop in.

As far as building is concerned. I've assembled 2 1911's from the ground up. I used Caspian Frames and Essex enhanced slides. I did all of the work, but had a well versed 1911 gunsmith fit the barrels. I feel barrel fitting should be best left to someone who has the knowledge, tools etc to get it right.

The Fusion kits appear to be nice. Slide already fitted to the frame. This is a tedious enterprise, but also fun!!

I started one a month ago and am just about finished.  I'm waiting for my Norrells Moly Coat to arrive, and need to do the final trigger adjustments.
Fusion uses high quality stuff, and parts fitting was not difficult at all.  (Barrel, Slide and Frame were already fitted by them, and that is the hardest part.)

I haven't seen the videofrom Wilson, but found most of the tips I needed on the web.

I'm further along than this now but am holding off on more pics until the finish is applied.

The video was VERY informative.  Overall I was impressed.  It took a lot of the intimidation out of the procedure.  The only subject they didn't cover, that I was hoping to see, was ejector tuning.  I had some problems with the ejecter on my Kimber and I would have liked to see some tips in that area, even though the gun is long gone.
