| I have a Colt 1991 in stainless steel. I wore it from the time I woke until I went to bed starting thurday when we packed up our house and evacuated. I came home Saturday and unloaded the car and went through the supplies and finally sat down around 11pm. I went to wipe down my pistol and it had rust on the hammer, the firing pin stop plate, on the frame in front of the mag release, on top of the slide in front of my back sight. The humidity is pretty high, along with the salt spray in the air. I also found spot of rust around my front sight base on my AR and some on my FAL. I keep everything coated with generous amounts of clp. WTF? I have totally lost faith in SS. Should I get it chromed? can you chrome SS? |
Yes according to Coal Creek CCA |

The word "stainless steel" is very misleading. Any steel is a composition of various elements, and stainless is comonly refered to in percentage...sometimes "hardness", which is incorect...most knife collectors understand these marketing "terms". anyway...even"high quality" stainless will be effected by environmental exposure...and salt most evident. you need to protect your firearms from the elements and residue from usage with frequent inspection/cleaning. just the facts.....p/s...very sorry for your misfourtune....the gov. sucks..........blackandgreen........ |

Stainless does not mean rust proof. Drakes does Melonite and I believe Miller Custom uses his service for such. |
