Is there anything that can be added to a 1911 to make it more reliable?
I’m not talking about magazines, I mean actual parts like the ejector, barrel bushing ect.

either its reliable or its not, so, if your 1911 is running fine, leave it alone

FWIW: almost all malfs can be traced back to mags, ammo, or the extractor

other companies do offer "reliability packages"

www.novaksights.com/1911.htm#Function_&_Reliability_

but i would say that its more of upgrading std production parts/MIM stuff to the good stuff and properly fitting em

Quality properly fit parts work the best.

Yeah, it can get a little complicated.  As said above, if it's runnin' fine, definitely leave it alone.

If it is experiencing malfunctions, you have to find out exactly what's causing the problem and then replace, modify, or fit that particular part.  Just call me Captain Obvious!

But yeah, it can be more complicated than that.  For example, just saying drop-in brand X extractor for increased reliability.....well, most of the time that extractor shoud be proberly tuned to function reliably.

Your gun havin' problems, or you just tryin' to make sure that it doesn't?

Sometimes adding parts can make it malfunction especially if its poorly fitted part or a part made of poor material. Only after finding out what the problem is do you plan on buying aftermarket parts for the internals. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If it's a Colt - take it down to the river and dip it in the MUD. These things were designed for bad conditions and not too much can be done to improve reliability.

No, There isn’t anything wrong with my 1911. I have a Norinco, and it works perfectly fine, never one proble, even when limp wristing it.

I just want it to keep working, and work in tougher conditions, but from the sound of it I think I’ll just leave it alone.

But what about firing pins, I’d think they’d work without tinkering.
Does anyone make a titanium coated one?
