When I got my second TRP, it was even more precise than the first, but it was shooting about 6" high.  I called Springfield, told them about my problem, and they sent me a new trijicon rear sight at about $50 with a shipping label to send the old one back for a complete refund.

I got the new sight in and installed, but it was shooting just a couple inches low, so I called and they sent me a new front sight (no more different size rear sights available).  I had that installed, but before that I noticed it was sort of crooked (just aesthetically) and dim.  I had it installed.

Having dealt with tritium night sights before it was, not surprisingly, completely dead after a matter of minutes, but I still went out and shot it.  It was dead on.

I tried to get Springfield to just send me another sight but they would not do it even though, sending the original sights in, I was willing to purchase the sight off warranty.  I "had to send the slide in".  I guess they figured at this point I was doing something massively stupid, but the fact they would not let me purchase a sight off warranty made me  (I took the pistol to a certified gunsmith [and former 1911 specialist] each time to have the sights put on, and I had told them that).

I milled over it a while and I was close to buying Novak's originals but then I'd have to deal with unsightly slide overlap on each side of the front sight.

Nobody else offered the nice fitting Springfield sights that were nicely tapered off on the sides.  It was a sheer drop off on the Novak's and Trijicon that left a gap - not to mention Trijicon did not offer a .160 front sight.

I didn't want to send the slide in, since, in my experience, when you send a gun in, they return it with a few more problems.  A complementary dropping and marring of the frame/slide seems to almost always be in order from firearm manufacturers.

I sent it in anyway (f-it).  Fast foward a week and I got it.  I'm pretty impressed they fixed it in under a week and I see no signs of droppages or lost finish around the front sight.  The whole package came neatly wrapped up and inside a nice plastic case!  I even got a letter telling me that my original refund on the rear sight is forthcoming.  That's good because anytime I pay out of my pocket I have to drag it out of them (Trijicon never refunded my shipping money for a bad sight, on another occasion, for example).

So while Springfield customer service wasn't perfect, having read about certain other 1911 manufacturers, I'm pretty impressed on this one.

Glad to hear they got it ironed out to your satisfaction.

Another plus for Springfield's customer service!

I remember a year or so ago, someone posted a link to another 1911 forum (or gun forum) about this person who put his SA 1911 in his backpack, rode his motorcycle home and the wind from the ride promptly unzipped his pack and out went his pistol.  He posted pictures of the pistol's condition and let me tell ya, they were of a pretty beat up pistol.   I believe SA fixed him right up.  I can't remember the complete details of the story but it was on the VERY positive side.
ETA:

Come to think of it, I may have posted the link. LOL.  I just can't remember right now.

I remember that one too.  The pistol was returned pristine except for a few minor "souvenir" scratches on the hammer and thumb safety.  With that kind of work they did, they could have fixed those too I bet.  It was amazing.
