Please recommend some inexpensive machening tools that a do it yourselfer can use for cutting frames for beaver tails, sights, etc. If you have pics or websites where they can be purchased I have an internet cookie I will give you.

Also what is your preferred brand and style of files and stoning tools for fitting work?

My new house has a nice shop area and I love to do challenging projects myself.

From Brownies:

60 and 65 degree dovetail files
#2 pillar file
6 and 10 inch Bastard, 2nd cut and smooth hand files
20 and 30 LPI checkering files (get the jig also, or make one)
Fine and medium jewel files
.156" reamer
Barrel lug cutter and handle, .195 cutter
The list could go on and on...

For cutting the frame tangs I use a 10 inch bastard, followed by a 6 inch smooth, then a 6 inch parallel round file for the contour and blend, finally the #2 pillar (my favorite file) and dremel for final fit and finish.  I use a piece of .5 inch round stock cut and drilled for a guide when doing beavertails.

I use an arkansas (fine) stone for sears.  Cobalt dremel bits for bevel work on slides and frames.  I love my dremel.  MX abrasive bits are awesome too.  I use those for a lot of work too.

Thanks!

What about milling machines or drill presses for cutting the frame tangs or sight cuts?
