I am in the market for a quality 1911 that I can rely on (arent we all). I plan on firing alot of rounds through it and taking it to a few training courses.

The thing is I am relatively new to 1911s. I have read quite a bit about them but am still lacking the knowledge to pick which gun would be best for me. I have narrowed the search down to the Wilson CQB and the Ed Brown SF.

I have heard great things about both of these firearms and think either way I go would be a good one, but was just wondering what you guys thought would be the best gun for me.

Both are excellent examples of properly built 1911's.

There is a used CQB in the EE for $1650.00

The Wilson is reliability tested before it leaves the factory. They test it with all three mags, fully and partially loaded. EB has a less than helpful attitude if you call them with a problem (per my gunshop manager friend). Wilson will kiss your ass and give you free mags.

With that said, a Springfield Armory Pro is a better gun than either.

I never heard bad things about Ed Brown service.  In fact, when I sent in my Stainless Kobra carry for an ejector issue, they sand blasted the gun a barrel before sending it back.  This got rid of any scratches in the slide, frame and barrel including the hood and made it look factory fresh.

Thanks for the help. I am leaning towards the Wilson but damn that SF really catches my eye.

I think I am going to flip a coin.

Has anyone had any issues with either gun? Let me know all the bad things that you, personally, have experienced.

Both are excellent.  I've owned them all and my pick would be a LB TRS or SA Pro.

I own an Ed Brown Kobra Carry and a Wilson CQB compact, I've had some issues with FTF and Failure to Eject with the Ed Brown, contrary to popular belief the folks at Ed Brown's were friendly and efficient and got the problem solved.  Wilson on the other hand really makes you feel special from the moment that you call.  They REALLY go out of their way to make sure you're happy with your gun.  That said my Wilson has probably close to 3,000 rounds with no problems.  I have a recoil spring ready to replace the factory one as soon as it starts giving me trouble but to this day it is as it came from Wilson.  Eats pretty much anything as well.  You won't go wrong with either but I think the Wilson is a better overall product.  Hope that helps

Excellent choices!  They seem to be the two best 1911's out there, the TRS being the better deal IMO.  The Pro is a nicer package but the TRS gives you everything you need in a 1911 and nothing you don't.  As much as I loved my CQB I just sold it to buy another TRS.  A second Pro is in the works as well.

Have you handled either one of those pistols? It may come down to what feels the best. I was in the market for a les baer TRS or a wilson CQB until I got to play with them and springfield pro. I went home with the pro. Remember it doesn't matter who you go to the prom with, it only matters who you take home.

Good point, it's hard to go wrong with any of them.

I just picked up a CQB and it ran without a hiccup shooting Federal 230gr hardball, over 100 rounds, then my father and I ran out of .45 ACP (he was running his Kimber, bought himself a Wilson same day). Considering the Kimber was unreliable the first 500 or so rounds (finally wearing itself into reliable function), I can recommend the Wilson. I'll be shooting it more this week (that's the plan at least) and I'll let you know if I run into any problems. I won't if I don't. The one thing that did cause troubles were a friend's mild handloads (semi wadcutters), it wasn't a magazine issue, either.

Fit and finish is fantastic, trigger pull is great, sights are very nice, the little touches are wonderful.

ETA: Both the guns are all black finish. Not sure why since the stock for the regular CQB is OD/Black, but I had wanted all black anyhow so it worked out

I would go with a TRS. I just picked one up from a member here. It's my new carry gun.

100% reliable and scary accurate. I am considering a SA pro or RRA for my next gun.

I'm a few payments into a Wilson CQB, and had alot of deliberation and research going into picking the weapon. ARF is a great resource for info, and generally the consensus opinions here are dead on. However, the best thing to do is go to your local gun store and put your hands on both of the weapons. Dry fire them, examine them, pick them up, etc. I personally wasn't considering an Ed Brown, so I can't give you any advice on that, but do yourself a favor before you buy and TRY THE WEAPONS OUT FOR YOURSELF. When I did it, the answer became abundantly clear.

For the serious gunfighter, it's a WilsonCombat CQB! I purchased a standard 5 inch CQB in o6'; i liked the gun so much, i recently purchased  another CQB( same setup as first) about one week ago. Now i have two matching CQBs'.

Yeah I have played with the EB quite a bit, the Cabelas around here has one and everytime I go in that place I come inches from buying it. Havent got to play with a Wilson, havent seen any around this area.

I will have to check out the TRS.

I have a Wilson CQB Elite and it is without a doubt the finest shooting 1911 that I have.  Now I do have a full house custom on a series 70, but I haven't shot it yet and not sure I will, it's just to pretty.....

Both are great guns. Wilson Combat has outstanding customer service should you need to use them. Ed Brown thoroughly tests their weapons before leaving the factory. They build everything so they enjoy one of  the lowest failure rates in the industry. As with any company if you start calling with an attitude- then you will get it back. Law of equal or opposite reaction from physics. Ed Brown builds one model which is top of the line. Not several models of varying degrees. Fullsize is Special Forces and then Kobra for compact. All their guns are test fired by Ed himself before leaving the factory with up to 150 rounds.

So choose what you like.

I ordered myself a Springfield Professional after doing a few months of research. $2095.00

So I looked into a PRO and really liked what I saw and read. So I went ahead and ordered one from Retting. Should be here tomorow or thursday.

Thanks for all the info.

p.s. Retting should have a couple left, for those interested.

Do PROs vary from model to model? I can't find any pictures now but I thought they had an undercut trigger guard like the Les Baer TRSs.

P.S. this one is on gunbroker slightly used for $2100.

I went and picked it up about an hour ago and couldnt be happier. Will probably take her out tommorow and put a few hundred rds through it.

I took pictures but the dog chewed up the cord...sorry.

It was made on 3-5-08. with a # CRG32XX.

I thought the barrel was interesting, it was all coated except for about the last inch of it. From my reading about the gun I thought it was all or nothing coated. I really dont care either way, just thought it was interesting.

Thanks again to those who steared me in the right direction...I dont think this will be my final 1911 purchase either.

Took my Pro out today for its first (by me) shooting. I only shot 150 through it because the ammo at the range is expensive, even for cheap shit. Needless to say I went home and ordered 500rds off the net.

With the ammo I was using (blazer 230gr FMJ) I was a little low and left. My groups were pretty tight at 25 yards, though. I was very happy with how tight the groups were but hopefully with good ammo it will be hitting dead center. I plan to use some 230 gr Ranger Non-bonded if I can get my hands on it, if not I will use Federal HST 230gr JHP.

The gun is very easy to handle, I was very impressed how easy it was to get back on target. Trigger is nice, I think the weight is perfect and very crisp.

I had zero problems through the 150 I shot other than lube spraying everywhere...I used a bit much. I think I might change to a grease also on the slide. After field stripping it and wiping it down I applied some Break-Free CLP and after a few hours it seems to dissapear. I have never used grease but I hear it lasts longer.

Overall I cant be happier with the thing. Better ammo and maybe some grease and hopefully I will be hitting dead center...I dont think I will be getting rid of this thing very soon, or ever
