Now I want one. Anything I need to know about 'em? |
Meh... they're not that great ![]() I've got just under 10k rounds through mine. And stastically it's been my most reliable pistol (I keep track of exact round counts and number of failures). There's really not much to talk about though. If you ever notice, the Wilson sub-forum on the 1911forums is pretty sparse. Mainly just picture posts. That's cause there's just not a lot to say -- they work and they work well. No drama. I replace recoil springs every 1k and shock buffs every 500 rounds. Oh, I did develop a slight wiggle in my front sight after about 8k rounds. I was in the area, and dropped into WC's headquarters. They put in a new front sight, gave me a tour and 2 free ETM mags and charged me nothing. Real nice, friendly bunch of guys too. |

Thanks for the info, hopefully I'll have one waiting for me on my next trip home! As some of you know, I'm a former 1911'er that switched over to Glocks after a long run of bad luck with a variety of 1911s. Today I rented two pistols - the Wilson CQB TLR and a Glock 27. The Wilson ran great (hence this thread), whereas the Glock had a broken firing pin resulting in several misfires. It appears that my paradigm has shifted. ![]() Hopefully it lasts. This is gonna be fun (and expensive). |
I thought aluminum was new for their frames. So tell me, is handling/recoil the same as an all steel pistol, or is there a noticeable difference? |
Oh I know that nothing is infallible, and have said as much several times. The results of one vs the other have just been VERY skewed in my experience. |
I've heard that so many times and its so true.....today's high is tomorrow's low, that's the version I heard 25 years ago and it still rings true. If that's what you want start the process and adopt yourself a new 1911! |
The handling is the same as any 5" 1911 to me. Any alloy frame gun will have slightly more recoil than a heavier steel frame of the same configuration; however, I do not think anyone who shoots regularly will find it noticable or to be a problem. I have always liked to shoot alloy guns over the steel ones although I have both. I love the feel of the 5" lightweight Wison. JD PS - my test target is dated 8/24/99. |

I sold my CQB for a Springfield Professional. The following, about the CQB, pissed me off: Breechface was rough and bent the rim on the cases during normal cycling. The filet cut on the bottom of the ejection port was rough. The bushing was too lose in the slide. The barrel had too much clearance between the hood and the breechface (.010") and did not close into battery with an interference fit. The gun would nor shoot factory ball ammo accurately. Wilson claims it is hard to get factory ball to shoot accurately. Funny that LB and SA shoot factory ball accurately. Overall, the CQB was a nice gun and never jammed once, but it wasn't worth $2200. |
I don't track the stat's on mine as closely as WilsonCQB1911 but I have about 5000 rounds through mine and it has been flawless. Runs like a sewing machine, is plenty accurate. It and my KZ45 get carried more often than any other I own. I have other nice 1911's but I have 100% confidence in the CQB. It a good feeling to have that kind of trust in your tools. Buy one...you'll like it. |
