I am looking at the match guns for the range and occasional carry, blasting gun.

Choices:

Kimber Gold Match 45 SS

Springfield Armory Trophy Match 45 SS

Which one and why?

Thanks

Search might yield more results on 'kimber' vs SA

i'd probably opt for the SA--better CS, QC, overall reliability, etc nowadays

Both good guns. I would go for Kimber. IMHO the Kimber trigger is better. Only other out of the box trigger that matched the Kimber I believe was the Colt Gold Cup

I am not a fan of the ILS.  If you remove it...  Removing a factory safety is a dicey proposition, though.  Kimber's trigger has a better feel, and is 100% made in the USA.  Gotta love that.  On the flip side, I do believe that SAs are more accurate.  Either will serve you well... but I'd go with the Kimber.

They are both great handguns but I tend to like my Kimbers a little more.  My Warrior is my favorite 1911.

Have owned both, will only own SA's from here on out.

First of all, if you are talking about both companies high end pistols, both should work flawlessly - period. Having said that, I have had both SA and Kimbers (not the pistols in question). I no longer have any Kimbers and I have a SA TRP - shoots flawlessly!
As for the locking system in the mainspring - don't know why the fuss about it, but I don't use mine and have nad no problems with it. I know some hardcore 1911 people don't like it - in which case just replace it with a normal MS housing, no big deal.

I am sure either gun will shoot great being their high end pistols.

I'd rather have the ILS system than the FPS that is in the Kimbers. I currently have both and can vouch for the Kimbers accuracy. The Springfield is just a Mil-Spec so it's combat accurate. I wouldn't trade my Series I Kimber for any Springer other than a PRO.

Someone just told me today that SA's are easier to work on/ customize, etc.?  Any merit to that?

Springfield would be (and is) my hands down choice. I own both a Trophy NM & a Les Baer & the SA holds up its end of the bargin, IMO.

The Trophy Match. I know of two that shoot the lights out and the trigger is fine on both. And you dont need the FLGR in the TM to give you that "artificial" tight lockup.
