I was watching the History Channel the other day and they had the guy from Smith and Wesson (his name slips me at the moment) shooting a 1911. He ended up bump firing the stock 1911. Had his thumb in the trigger guard and used the recoil of the gun. Neat to see.

The wife and I toured the "Crime and Punishment" museum in D.C. this weekend.  On display was a customized 1911, with a Thompson 1928 buttstock, and a Cutts compensator on the barrel.

The question is...WHY?

I've seen historical pictures of a government model with foregrip under the dust shield and magazines welded one atop the other - it was a device of either Dilinger or Clyde Barrow...but I can't find the pics anymore. Maybe someone else has seen it too?

Most likely a Colt "tool room" gun made during WWII.  There were many odd 1911 based guns made around that time.

Here's a couple --

I think Bul Transmark converted one of their guns to full auto.

I can't remember the name of the show, but pretty sure it was Jerry Miceluk. To think of the fact he can also reload a revolver and put 12 shots dead center isn't bad either, considering he did it 2.98 seconds is unheard of.

Club Fed vacation? Why? The vid was obviously taken at a MG shoot. I've seen a number of legal, select-fire 1911's and clones (and HiPowers) at shoots. Legit owners are not going to show up at a public shoot with an unpapered gun. FYI, the 'smith who created full-auto 1911's for a number of 30's era badguys was from San Antonio. Similar guns have been created by backyard 'smiths in the Philippines, too.

U Tube added info to the effect that the gun being demonstrated in the video was possibly the last 1911 full auto conversion made before the ban and it is a legal, registered, MG.

Springfield Armory GI .45

Pistol keeps firing in two or three round bursts unexpectedly.

(Problem fixed) Pistol was sent back to Springfield and repaired. No more full auto bursts :(

That's from the video linked.  So whatever was OBVIOUS to you didn't seem to exist in my world.  The ATF has more or less cleared the way to nail a malfunctioning firearm on you as an illegal machine gun just the same as if you modified it.  So again I dunno what you're talking about with the obviously at an MG shoot bit, but that was a malfunctioning 1911.  The original link at the top of the post I'd agree WAS at a shoot.  The one you quoted, not so much.  It fires single shot for the first couple of rounds and then starts multi-bursting.
