I took my new Kimber Pro Covert II out today, 2 Fail to Feeds in the first 2 mags, then no problems, I am very satisfied with it, EXCEPT I cant get it apart.

Its bushingless, and I get the slide off and have the recoil spring/guide rod forward and captivated by the takedown tool, but there is no WAY for the barrel to come out w/ the guide rod still in place and the Kimber manual makes no mention of how to remove the thing w/o the barrel being removed.

Can somebody help me?

make sure the little tool is not inserted too far into the hole in the guide rod. If you put it in too far, you will have the problem you describe. Back the tool out until it just barely comes out of the other side, then give it a try.

The tool you are talking about is the little L shaped wire, right?   You have to put it in so that it doesn't interfere with removal of the barrel.  I can't figure out how to explain it in words, but what you are trying to do is very easy after you get the hang of it.  Don't forget you can rotate the parts.  Be careful not to scratch the finish with the wire takedown tool.

You are removing the guide rod ass'y before attempting to remove the barrel...right? It's not clear in your post.

IIRC, if you have the tool upside down it interferes with the Bbl.  I'm kinda hazy, but I had some issue with that.

I always, lock back the slide, insert the "L" tool, release slide slowly and move it forward, until I can remove slide stop, then remove the slide stop.  Then you just slide the slide off.  The guide rod assembly and barrel stay in the slide.  You can then just remove the guide rod assembly, leaving the tool in place until you reassemble the gun.

+1... I find that method works best, also.

This is what I did also, but I dont see how the guide rod can come out when its got a tool on one side holding it from moving back in the slide, and a compressed spring on the other side.

That video helped me a lot. I had to watch it like 3 times, but it is pretty good.

My problem was my takedown tool was too long and hit the side of the slide, just made a new one out of a paperclip, problem solved :D

Thanks guys.
