| I have been looking into completing a 80% 1911 and was wondering if there were any suggestions as to where to obtain a) a good 80% (as light as possible), b) the slide and barrel(I would like to make 2 pistols in .45 and one in 9mm), and the rest of the parts. I found a guy who made a pretty detailed sight with links, but I seem to remember reading on some message boards that the guy he recommend getting 80%'S from got activated for Iraq.( the names escape me at the moment and I'm writing this from my work laptop). So any suggestions would be much apprecciated. |

tannery shop you probably read pvt ryan's webpage/blog on it check out www.homegunsmith.com if you want more info, they have a whole 1911 building section that you can see when you register there. <eta> don't think you'll save any money going this route...you'll spend much more and have less/no resale value. I did it, mostly for the fun and the experience....from now on I'll just be building off completed frames....granted I did it off of a 60% with no special tools other than a drill press (on a machine meant for wood too of all things) and a dremel tool with rotary table attachment. It's still not done yet seeing as I need to order an advantage arms 22LR kit to finish it. |
