| Would some one please explain the difference between: full size, government, commander, officers, compact? I'm assuming it has something to do with barrel and grip length. I have a Kimber Pro Carry II and if I want to get accessories, what will work with what I have? |
Fullsize = Government = 5" barrel, fullsize grip frame Commander = 4.25" barrel, fullsize grip frame Officers = 3" barrel, compact grip frame Pro = a term used by Kimber. Uses a 4" bull barrel and a fullsize grip frame. Compact = a term used by Kimber. Uses a 4" bull barrel and a compact frame. Ultra = a term used by Kimber. Uses a 3" bull barrel and a compact grip frame. Champion = a term used by Springfield Armory. Uses a 4" bull barrel and a fullsize grip frame. Ultra = a term used by SA. Uses a 3.5" bull barrel and a compact grip frame. Micro = a term used by SA. Uses a 3" bull barrel and a compact grip frame. |
Honestly, this 1911 Forum is what keeps bringing me back to AR15. SGB runs it extremely well, and I've told him several times. He's patient, actively participates, moderates, he runs it very well, it's very well organized and a lot of thought has been put into it. I mean I realize he may have to come down on me for something some day, I can't imagine what, but, He's a extremely level-headed guy, ocean of knowledge, but anyway. |
A BIG +1 to that. I put a lot of faith into what SGB says. There are several others here in the 1911 forum that I hold in high regard as well, but there's no point in swellin heads... I think they know who they are |

FYI, current-production Colt terminology has changed to Lightweight Commander (aluminum) versus Commander (steel). |
I carry a CCO and think it's a great combo. I was going to post it since Bullitt forgot about it, but you beat me to it. |
