What brand of grip safety works best with the Springfield Armory 1911s? I have a GI SS and a Trophy Match that need enhancement. I have a Smith/Alexander beavertail but I have heard the Springfield frame may not match up well.

IIRC (don't have time to scan the text), there's some talk of that here.

(and I always like to say, when linking to that site, "Thanks, Blindhogg.")

I read that before but missed the part about Springfield. Looks like he recommends the Wilson for Springfields.

Anyone know how the S&A compares?

The Springfields have a .220 radius (stupid, it makes blending a pain), and I use Smith and Alexander's on all of them.  Not that Wilsons are better, worse, or equal - I've just used them in the past, they work great, the fit great, and they blend great.  They are my preference, your mileage may vary.

Mine both currently have the military style rattail safety and are not cut for a beavertail. Do I need to use a .220 beavertail or will a .250 work and blend properly?

Listen to Bob.

Most Springfields use a .220 radius, I believe the "loaded" models use a Wilson compound radius, but if it's a GI style it will be the .220 and Smith and Alexander make one for this express purpose.
