| I am looking at the 2 and leaning toward the SA. A while ago someone posted that the TRP had more for the money. I couldn't locate that post but can someone in the know tell me what exactly parts and quality wise the SA has over the Kimber or not. |
|
of the 2, i'd opt for the SA TRP hands down over the SIS (or just about another kimber of the same price) dont get me wrong, i own both SAs and Kimbers, but overall, esp nowadays, the SAs are the better bang for the buck, parts, overall quality/reliability, and CS wise |
I concur |
| I just bought a TRP Operator and shot it for the first time, Sunday. I can't comment on the Kimber (never shot one), but the TRP is the most accurate handgun I've ever shot, right out of the box. Shot 200 rounds without any problems. ( I know that's not many) But, it's usually in the first outing that a new gun will show it's faults. SA should rethink their magazines, though. For a handgun in this price range they should upgrade there. I bought a couple of Wilson 47D's and they're great. |
Yeah, at the very least you'll want to replace the followers on the stock mags. They're a PITA. But hey, if you're going to do that, it's not that much more expensive to pick up some 47Ds. Or the new Wilson ETM, which looks pretty cool. |
I was with a close friend last week while he was breaking in his new TRP Operator and he told me it was the most accurate 1911 he has ever shot. I think he ran about 250 rounds through the gun without a hiccup. |

I'd get a Springfield TRP over the Kimber.
That was pretty much my experience too when I had my TRP Operator. That thing made me look good. It was seriously a sweet shooter. Only reason I sold it was because I wanted a smaller/lighter carry weapon (went to a USPc 9mm). |

Ok range report and comments. The overall appearance is great. The grip is very aggressive but I like it. The sights are kind of small i would like if the front sight was a little larger. I know that the adjustable sight is not as sturdy as a fixed but i like to be able have the gun zerored with my preference of sight picture and with the carry load i prefer. The gun shot with no malfuctions. In general I was not a big fan of the ambi saftey but it doesnt hit my strong hand like some of the others i looked at. I very much like the speed bump. I used a wilson combat mag but the gun didnt seem to like it. Sometimes it would not go to slide lock and sometimes it would but would then slam forward upon hitting the mag release. No problems with the chip mags. I didnt try their mags because why woulld you carry a 7rd when you can carry an 8rd. I tried my 10rd power mag but it wouldnt seat becuase the plastic bumper interferred with the mag well. The take down tool that they supplied didnt work or at least i couldnt figure it out, a paper clip worked fine. The accurary was great. I sighted in the iron sights and M6 laser/light. The gun is more acurate than i will ever be. I shot about 200 rds of cci aluminum and cci brass both 230gr. |
pics? congrats on a great 1911...i hope you cont to enjoy it and it conts to server you well

I have a stainless TRP, and have handled an SIS on a few occasions. In my opinion, they are not even in the same league. The TRP is fitted so well, it feels like a well-oiled piston. It shoots amazing groups all day long. The machining of the SIS didn't impress me at all, it was poorly fitted with obvious machining marks. It didn't feel to be as well made as the TRP, and while it may be a fine gun, it can't compete. |
Congratulations on the new TRP Operator.![]() I reccommend the Chip McCormick 8 round Power mags. They and the 10 rounders work great in my TRP Operator. I also swapped out the sand paper grips (that will leave sand inside your pistol eventually) for some black Gunner grips which work great for me. |
| sniper i have one of the new models with the short rail and non sandpaper grips. thanks for the warning though. I used a few chip mags i already had with no problems. I had just bought two new ones but one of them wouldnt lock the slide back i could see the follower was different than the rest so i sent it back |

SA gets my vote...I have a TRP Shoots like a house on fire. Only complaints...the nite sites are small ( I liked the Kimbers better )....they were bigger. I do like the sites on the SIS..the rear is squared for cocking one handed. Thats sums it up though.. SA rules the day... |

What?
