Does anyone have any info on this type of 1911? I was just wondering how reliable they were and if people are happy with them. www.centerfiresystems.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1675 |

I own 2 of the 1911 govt models I can't say enough good about them. For the price I don't think they can be beat by anyone. I shoot cast bullets and they have a polished bore that has not been giving me a problem with leading. I also own IAI 10 mm stainless. Springfield armory the 2 Rock Island Armory pistols are much tighter then the other 2 pistols. Accuracy is good with them. Have had no malfunctions with them either. I will not hesitate to buy another 1 of them if the need should arise. my .02 for whatever that is worth. Good luck with your decision. |
| They do seem to be getting good reviews. Some people have problems with adding aftermarket parts but out of the box it runs really well it seems. I think the only thing that scared me was the low price and the "made in the philippines" description. But I've also read that people who do have problems with their Rocks were able to get it straightened out with the customer service, which I hear is great. |

They are very good pistols for the money. I have the Tactical model and haven't had any problems with it. I will be surprised if the RIA bashers leave this thread alone. Armscor makes 1911's for other companies too and with all manufacturers, they will produce a lemon now and then. I haven't had to use their customer service but have been told that it is top notch. Another board to check out is 1911Forum.Com and there is a post on Gunboards.com that is good. |
Mine runs great w/ hollow point and FMJ |
| I love my RIA 1911, it was my first semi auto pistol and I kind of bought it as a project gun. I've fired a variety of bullets through it from SWC to HP and it feeds them all fine. The parkarized finish on mine is exceptionally tought. It's also a very accurate weapon though it did take about 200 rounds of break in before it started to get that way. It now has about 3,000 rounds through it and it's still runs great and for an entry level 1911, especially an entry level on a budget, I think they're wonderful BUT if you have more money to spend get a basic Springfield Armory. They're put together with a little more expertise and are milled more cleanly. The Taurus PT1911's can be hit or miss. You'll hear some about S&W 1911's, I'm not a big fan of S&W's politics or their external extractors simply because I can't buy and fit a regular 1911 extractor to them. Same goes for the Para with the power extractor and I've heard horror stories about people taking them apart. |
| Good if you leave it alone. After market parts do not drop in like they say. I built on 3 diferent frames and they all needed fitting of the parts, even mil.spec GI parts. Mag release needs alot of fitting keyhole in frame is to small has to be opened up, the mag catch lock as small as it is also has to be fitted to the frame. If you want 1911 to add on to in the future add alittle more money buy a Springfield. You will get a forged frame, slide and barrel can't do any better for the price. |
