so i was talking with family about maybe getting a .45 for my first handgun in the fall- and i've been leaning toward the high capacity polymer jobs.. and then my sister- of all peoples like "don't be a bitch, get that metal one, the 1911" .... so i'm wondering... how reliable is the 1911 loaded, and how accurate is it? because as much as a glock seems like fun, i remember when i went to the range, i shot much much better with a 1911 than i did a glock. a glock's trigger pull seemed forgiving to jerks, all the hits were on the target, but i couldn't pinpoint what i wanted to hit. but the 1911...well... i shot the rental 1911 as accurate as the revolvers i was shooting in SA. what good is 13 misses as opposed to 8 hits you know?  i'm looking at this to be a target pistol first, and a SHTF sidearm second. so to me i guess accuracy is more important than being able to shit in the slide and have it work anyway.

In my opinion the Springfield loaded is by and large the best bang for the buck in <$1000 1911's.

However, based on your post you'd be better off spending some $$$ on professional instruction before making a decision on what should be your first handgun. Sounds to me like you're already developing bad habits that no handgun design is going to overcome.

An ounce of instruction is worth 10 cases of bullets.......well thats what Confucius would say if he was alive.

i think you read too much into what i said. i'm a pretty good shot, and my 'instructor' will help me out when he's back from the middle east. until then, what are your opinions on the fuckin  gun.

i'm kinda confused why everyone's upset? i guess its hard to tell inflection from text, but in NJ i guess we use profanity so normally that its normal? i personally don't see where i appeared pissed off? NJ, the garbage state, i know, garbage state-garbage mouthes. but i didn't want to attack anybody, come on guys, i just want advice on what appears to be a great ----in' gun if you know what i mean!

I don't own a springer loaded but have shot them. Good firearm and accurate. In a shooting class I took back in Sept. every model 1911 had a jam or two, out of 1,000 rounds not bad, the people with the glocks and XDs (my choice for shtf)not one jam. I'm not pushing you towards the plastic pistols I'm just giving my experience. About what you said some of us have kids that read the posts. Me I don't care I drop the "F" bomb on a regular basis.

You should be pleases with a Springfield Loaded. I don't like the triggers on them, but I hear that can be easily remedied (I don't know the specifics--I'm not a SA guy). SA has a life time warranty, so they should make it right if you have any problems.

Profanity is fine just try not to come across as a prick.

And a real instructor always beats some guy who knows how to shoot but doesn't know how to teach. Hire a specialist.
Use his pistols until you have an idea of what you want.

i am considering the arfcom approach...1911's are so cool....but the polymer pistols i' was lookinag at for a long time are great too... i guess i must GET BOTH.

i'll take my polymer search to the handgun general forum/search whats up with other people on those. i still like the idea of DA/SA and an accurate .45. and spending a max of around 800 for the gun alone.

The Loaded I bought needed some tweaking to run.  This is often the case from my observations.  Apparently Springfield cannot be bothered to properly set the extractor tension on the assembly line.

That got mine running, but I had to spend a little more money to get it running right.  EGW firing pin and stop, lighter mainspring, heavier recoil spring.

i own a springfield 1911a1 loaded, i bought it brandnew out of the box it had a 7 1/2 lb trigger that was the 1st thing to go. but i do have to have to say if you could handle the trigger she would shoot 1 1/2" moa at 25yds. got a wilson trigger/mainspring/hammerspring/disconnecter/hammer/guiderod/barrel bushing/slide stop/extractor/sear and a bunch of other parts in the mail. springfield actually makes a superb pistol especially the loaded pistols i just really like the wilson parts OH by the wayy i will say one thing more if you buy the springfield make sure you buy wilson model 47d magazines to feed it the springfield clips are junk i gave mine away

I have owned my SA 1911 Loaded for about a year and a half,  absolutely 0 problems.  I have 8 factory mags and they run without a hitch. I also have a few 47D's and CMC powermags that also run flawlessly .I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I have a Colt Combat Commander that I bought back in 1974. I took my wife out shooting the other day. The first time she shot a mag through it at 10 feet she put 2 rounds in the 10X, 3 rounds in the 9 ring, and 2 rounds in the 8 ring. hat
