So I am in the market for a Springfield Operator.  I have found 2 shops in town, one has the LW and one has the MC.

What are the differences (if any) besides one is Alum. and one is Steel?  Which one would you go with for a duty weapon?

Have you taken a look at this

Then just check out the differences. Sorry, I am no more help, but that is what I did whenever I purchased my first SA 1911.

Yea, as far as I can tell the LW has a 2 piece guide rod, the MC has a 1 piece, the LW is Alum and the MC is steel.

Just checking to see if there was anything I am missing.

Duty weapon as in carrying all day long? Then the alloy frame would be a nice weight savings, IMO.

i'd get the MC w/ the steel frame--full weight 1911s imo handle better

Picked it up today.  WOW!   Very nice!  I've been handleing it tonight and it feels very solid.

I am not sure if I will keep the grips or swap them out.  I will put a bunch of rounds through it before I decide.

I hope to take it to the range tomorrow.
