I picked up a Colt Mark IV, officers model recently. First off, it has Hogue wraparound grips. I cant stand them. Where can I find correct grips for it? Second, it appears to have a bull barrel and a strange doubled recoil spring. I assume the previous owner thought it need extra spring power, though I doubt doubling it did much. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Lastly, when I took it out to the range the white insert for the sights came off. WTF? Worst part is I paid too much for it. |
Search AuctionArms or Gunbroker. However, putting "correct" grips on a stock series 80 Colt is going in the wrong direction IMO. The best thing about these guns is that they are a good base for customization.
If it shoots, I'd leave it unless it's an absolute PITA to fieldstrip.
It's just paint and you should easily be able to replace it using a toothpick and some white gloss Testors enamel.
At least you have something worth having; it could have been a Kimber or Springfield. |

The double recoil spring is the correct set up for that pistol. They need to be replaced approx every 500 rounds to maintain reliability. VZgrips.com makes grips to fit the OACP frame. |
