Last month I bought 750 rounds of Wolf .45 auto ammo from AimSurplus for a relatively cheap $10.50 a box. Then, last week I see it has gone up another $1.45 to $11.45 a box!...ouch! and I would guess that Aim's price is about the best you'll find. The other day I was at our local gun shop and seen a couple 'Ciener' .22LR Conversion kits for the 1911A1. They came with slide-barrel assembly, one 10 round magazine and instructions in a nice blue plastic carry case for $187 so i bought one. When i tried to install the Ciener slide onto my Norinco 1911A1 clone it wouldn't quit slide all the way on the frame so put some IOSSO bore cleaner/polishing paste on slide to frame mating surfaces and gently worked the slide back & forth until it moved freely. Then loaded up the magazine and cycled the 10 rounds thru it without a problem. I havn't shot it yet but I hope to do so later today or tomorrow. If anyone else has used one of these 'Ciener' kits for the 1911A1 give me your feedback on what you think of it, does it function good? How is the accuracy and any other feedback would be appreciated. Thanks Much |
| I hope that you got the one with the adjustable sight. Mine does not shoot to the same point of aim as .45 ball. These conversions are very picky about ammo. 40gr. solid point hi-velocity is all that they recommend and with that I still get to practice my clearing drills a lot. You will want to use a lot of lube. If your hammer is hard to cock, expect more malfunctions. If you can get yours to run fairly well, they are OK for practice. I have three 1911s right now and the conversion only fit my Wilson. |

I have a Commander size Ciener kit and it works great on 3 pistols I have. Colt,Norinco and Griffon. Keep it wet and it will work although I did have a problem with a new 15 rd. mag. But that is fixed now.Weak mag spring from the start. I lubbed the mag well and put just a lttle stretch in the spring and cured the problem of failing to feed. The 10 rd. that came with the kit worked great. |

Ok, just got back from trying the Ciener kit on my Nork 1911A1. Everything you guys said is consistant with my experience with it. I shot 225 rounds consisting of Win. Xpert 36gr. HP, Thunderbolt and good'ol Walmart Value Pack Federal 36gr.HP and some CCI Stingers. The Federal Val Pak and Stingers worked without issue. Thunderbolt=junk and the Xpert was iffy. I think these kits prefer copper wash over wax coat. The indoor range I was at is a drafty unheated building with lots of ice cold ventalation air blowing around. My nose was cold and my hands & feet were getting numb. The Mobil 1 20wt oil I used as lube may have gotten a littlle thick in the cold so I figure Break Free CLP will be better for this application and i agree they must be kept well lubed. What surprised me was how much more noise and blast the Stinger had than the Fed. I rarely shoot .22LR but will be shooting it alot more often now. My kit has fixed sights. Shooting off a rest I found them to be as 'ON' as I'm ever going to be able to use. I shoot this set up much more accuratly than my CZ 75 SPO1. Probably because of the trigger job Wilson did to the Nork back in the early 1980s and of course the 1911 platform itself is awesome. I'm not understanding how POA with the Ciener has anything to do with the POA of the .45? Maybe 41Fan can expound on that some. I'm interested. ........ |
