After months of reading up on this pistol I finally got to handle one at my local gun dealer today. They had one in the case, stainless model. It was a very good looking piece, and felt good to handle, but when I racked the slide, it didn't feel nearly as smooth slide to frame fit wise as my old Springer 1911-A1. Price tag had $699 on it. |
from what i've seen, those are about the current averages...a tad steeper, but they are no longer the $500 OTD for the blued ones ![]() imo, unless its for 5 bills, you are better off w/ an SA, colt, kimber, etc |
| I'll have to spend a bit more for my next one. A basic SA/TRP is the bottom feeder of my short list. In my rural neck of the woods I have to go strictly by what I read & see cause nobody around here would dream of dropping 2k +/- on a .45 except me, so no shops keep high ends on hand. |

There is a stainless model on Gun Broker for a buy it now price of 595.00. I bought a WWII Stainless Springer for 550. several years ago. Considering it came with GI sights and didn't even come with an extra magazine I think Taurus has some value. I shot one at a local range, nice for the money. |
| I bought my blued Taurus last March for $479.00. One month later they were $569 at the same store. I have enjoyed it. It shoots great and is very accurate. I also have an SA Champion. For the price I paid it is a great gun. I don't think I would have paid much more than that for it though. |
It ain't Taurus. It's unscrupulous dealers taking advantage of all good publicity and feedback the PT1911 has generated. Dealer price on the PT 1911 SS is a fair amount below $600.00. |
| I'm not so sure it's only the dealers. The dealers where I live were never able to get more than one or two at a time back when the prices were in the $450-500 range, the price at which a PT 1911 is still a good value. If more had been available, the dealers couldn't jack up the price so much. Kind of a shame that Taurus can't/hasn't kept up with the demand, because at $600+ there are many more options. |
Just because it's overpriced doesn't mean people won't buy it. Many are convinced that you're getting $2k worth of "custom" features for a fraction of the cost. For those that really believe it, they are sure that they are not overpriced (of course this doesn't change the fact that they are indeed overpriced) |
