| Alright gentlemen, I won't go negative and ask you to bash any semi custom makers on bad service, so give me your opines on who has the best overall customer service out there on any and all issues regarding their 1911's. |
1. He asked about semi custom, which Colt isn't 2. He asked about customer service, not how it functioned out of the box. Now back to our regularly scheduled thread.... I have heard good stuff about Wilson's CS. I have dealt with RRA, and was pleased. Nothing spectacular, but they answered my questions and helped me out with my order. It was occasionally hard to get someone on the phone, but I think this is acceptable for a company that has so few people working on 1911s. |
I see. The "QC" was bad but "Customer Service" was good. |

Nighthawk Custom - A+ all the way. Only issue is they are addictive Kimber - C Had 3" Ultra CDP II with external extractor that took 3 trips back to Kimber before they finally replace slide with internal extractor. In all fairness, TLE Pro (4") and Custom II (5") function great. Colt - no experience with CS, 5" Gold Cup runs great. Springfield A+ Glock (oh yeah, this is a 1911 thread)...... |

Wilson Combat for me. They made a mistake on a grip order years ago and when the right ones arrived they were on the house... $60 (before owned any of their firearms). When I had purchased my CQB Compact over there, Larry sat with me on the phone as he went through the bins to ensure I got the right cocobolo grips... little red, even grain, NO orange. 20 minutes we were there as he pitched ones and described them to me. I am a proud owner of their products (firearm, numerous parts, and magazines) and I cannot imagine better service out there. |

Best experience: Kimber and Kahr. Replaced broken parts. Worse experience: Colt, treated me like a fool, brushed me off. Bought a WWI ( repop - Second one I have 2), slide wouldn't stay open. They said try a different mag (have over 50 new Wilson 47's, Chip McCormicks, Mec Gars, and WWII GImags. None worked. They said too bad. I bought a new Ed Brown slide lock, fixed it. And I own lots of their products, but it doesn't matter to them I guess. Also SIG. Bought a new 225, they wouldn't repair a defective sear, said send it back for a $100 tune up. Sold off all my SIG's, don't even want to hear their f***'n name. |

For mods, Springfield has a damn good shop. I have found they can be a bit unsteady when it comes to making some bum 1911s work, though. Smith and Wesson has always done me very well, personally. Others have had the same issues that I have had with Springfield ( send in a bum gun and it comes back worse ) Armory. I've never had to use Colt's Customer Service beyond ordering parts so I am not sure. Same with Browning. |

I had some issues with my new Dan Wesson CBOB 1911 (semi-custom?). Although they wouldn't reimburse me for the $65 it cost me to ship the gun back to them.....they did get it in and out of their shop in a few days (5 I think).....and it's worked great even since. They were also really good about returning my phone calls and providing me with info if I asked for it. I would rate them pretty good....even thought they didn't' cover the shipping prices on their gun that locked up on me after only 3 rounds through it.

Thanks guys. Opinions varied, which was certainly expected. I view this as an important part of who I'll do business with. Breaking it down, Wilson seems to have a slight upper hand on overall satisfaction with "over-the-phone" issues and the like, which doesn't surprise me from reading previous posts. I appreciate your feedback. |
